Some poor neighboring island is going to be very confused when a storm hits and a couple thousand mouse skeletons parachute into their village.

Don't snakes eat live mice? How is 1,000's of dead mice laying around going to attract a snake looking for live food?

I have heard that aspirin has a similar effect on a cat, can potentially kill it. Not sure if that is BS or not.

But the plan seems weird, why don't they just employ someone to catch the snakes?

I assume they are hoping they will be live mice. If they intended for them to be dead, the parachutes would be unnecessary. Wouldn't they?

Otherwise, just fly low over the tree tops and dump a few thousands pounds of dead mice overboard. No chutes needed.

That's usually the case. They aren't scavengers and a mouse that is dead for a few days is not going to look tasty. Even if all 2,000 mice get eaten by 2,000 snakes and all of those snakes die, that's only 2,000 snakes gone. I'm sure there are at least 500 other problems with this idea. Eight million bucks, lol.

Have you never seen someone feed a snake a dead/frozen rodent? It's more common than feeding it stuff that's alive.

I was stationed on Guam. Trust me, you'd be better off holding back the tide with your hands than trying to catch all of the snakes that are there.

I hope it is more common. I find people who feed their pets live animals especially soft furry ones into transparent cage from which you can view the scene to be peculiar. I remember that one vid where a guy drops a rat into a fish tank with an alligator snapping turtle. You can hear them giggling in the background, and some of the people commenting about how "cool" that looked.

Brown tree snakes aren't picky at all, while most wild snakes would turn their nose up at a dead mouse a BTS won't. While this should help reduce the population it remains to be seen if the long term effects will help.

I have a friend in San Diego that was working with some of the rarest birds in the world and 3 of them were from Guam.

$8 million on this...

They could probably pocket 8 mill by selling people rights to blast snakes with a shotgun. Or if they brave enough, chop it in half with a machete. Now I am all against animal cruelty, but this is an invasive species afterall, and a shotgun blast, and machete hack should put it down quickly.

Article said 2,000 dead mice..

Yes. I have seen someone feed a snake a dead/frozen rodent, and while that's more common for snakes in captivity (keep in mind I'm no Guam expert) I think the instances of frozen rodents laying around the jungle there are very rare.

Makes sense, each hand made parachute is $4,000.00 dead mice can't pull rip cords for hell's sake must be some kind of space age 'chute..
