The kids the US was getting from central america had walked through Mexico, the refugees we get from places like Somalia go through the air space of how many countries before they can be free of persecution? Well indians are generally bros, I've had no bad experiences with indians actually.

The main issue has been with Africans and Muslims, to be honest. Asians don't seem to have any issues assimilating either. I don't expect indians to name their kids John or Jerry. Hell, one of my best friends is named Gurdeep. When people speak of assimilation, they mean a respect for the rules and language of the culture. Indians generally have done a wonderful job at that.

But with African canadians and Arabs/muslims, it isn't the same. I as a half white half arab man have been harassed many times, or just heard passing rude remarks about white people while hanging out with black and arab friends. It's a casual thing to them--Like oh, they're against X? White people are stupid. Stuff like that. But that grows. When entire communities speak of a race casually as stupid or weird, it has a long term effect. And it happens more than many know. Yes, the situation across the EU is far from identical.
I believe that under current EU legislation though, they are required to apply for asylum in the first state they arrive in and that the Dublin Regulation means that they can be sent back to whichever state that was.
I don't think there's any provision for Asylum Seekers to apply for Asylum in Germany from Syria or from the refugee camps of Iraq and Turkey.
There was "only" 200,000 asylum applications in Germany in 2014 though. The scale of crisis is rapidly escalating as the conflicts continue and people that were trying to hold out run out of resources.
The number of refugees and displaced persons recognised by the UNHCR topped 50 million in 2013. The highest since WWII.
This isn't just a case of economic migration.

Well indians are generally bros, I've had no bad experiences with indians actually.

The main issue has been with Africans and Muslims, to be honest. Asians don't seem to have any issues assimilating either. I don't expect indians to name their kids John or Jerry. Yes, the situation across the EU is far from identical.
I believe that under current EU legislation though, they are required to apply for asylum in the first state they arrive in and that the Dublin Regulation means that they can be sent back to whichever state that was.
I don't think there's any provision for Asylum Seekers to apply for Asylum in Germany from Syria or from the refugee camps of Iraq and Turkey.
There was "only" 200,000 asylum applications in Germany in 2014 though. The scale of crisis is rapidly escalating as the conflicts continue and people that were trying to hold out run out of resources.
The number of refugees and displaced persons recognised by the UNHCR topped 50 million in 2013. The highest since WWII.
This isn't just a case of economic migration.

Yeah but people come when they know they can get in and it's big business for smugglers who facilitate the operation when countries are accepting people. The US didn't have people crossing the borders in the 50s and 60s (a period of low immigration of all types) like they do now.

Boats are less likely to come to Australia now that they are turned around and more likely to come to Europe now that they are rescued and brought on shore.

Also I guess if Germany took 800,000 refugees this year and 300,000 came to all of europe by boat, than most of them are coming by land and have crossed through several countries to find refuge.

I never said all of Europe speak English as a first language, that would be dumb. But, the UK, Ireland do, the vast majority of Swedish, Swiss, German and French people (even if they choose not to admit it), do.

My dad has lived in Germany, never spoke a word of German, but everyone he met could speak English to him (this was in the 90s). I have taught 100s of German kids coming to England for summer school and ALL of them spoke conversational English. They get a lot of UK/USA TV and music. English is literally like the second language there.

But shared language was just one of my points (probably the least significant point, but you latched onto it to "try and make me sound dumb"), shared heritage, shared culture (be it music, tv, religion etc), political ideology, family/friendship ties ... the list goes on and on and on ...
