I don't think it's overly simplistic to think that 800k immigrants is going to fuck up German democratic socialism ... what's left of it. Incidentally, how democratic can it be when these alleged democratic socialists have no right to control immigration policy? Even regarding the specific issue at hand, the 'democratic' fiction is already tissue-thin.
Look at how Germany reacted to Greece. How do you expect Germans to respond to funding an enormous immigrant population in their own borders? And how well has Germany ever succeeded at integrating such populations?
Look at the startling recent rise of the right in Europe. Yay! For the first time ever this week, Sweden's polls are led by a nationalist party (mainstream, but still nationalist). Y'all may have missed it.

But I'm sure it's not representative of any trend or social changes. How could mass demographic change cause social or political changes? Inconceivable to me. It shouldn't -- from an ethical perspective -- so it won't, and even if it does, we aren't to blame.
