German Political News & Discussion Thread

Sure is a lot of "literally hitler" stuff in here

This is where journalism is losing its way"
The Washington Post said:
The influx, however, sparked a backlash, particularly among the far right. Opponents worried that the migrants weren't assimilating, a sentiment fueled by news stories of crimes and rapes committed by migrants (many partially or totally fabricated). They warned, too, that an influx of mostly Muslim migrants put Germany at risk of increased terrorism.
The inject that paragraph, so nonchalantly, without further explication. They clearly want readers to believe the mass rape issue is being fabricated.

That's just terrible, terrible fucking journalism. That's editorializing outside the editorial section.

They think that if they can tax Ahmed's janitor job it will help the economy. All whilst a lifetime of welfare for his imported family, kids and wife.

But muslims!!!!!!!

21st Century "Islamic Science", ladies and gentlemen.

PhD Thesis: The Earth Is Flat

http://m.gulfnews.com/opinion/thinkers/phd-thesis-the-earth-is-flat-1.2009202

Some absolute gems aside from the obvious:

* The PhD student had previously graduated at the top of her class.

* Stars are “limited” in number and have a diameter of 292 km (not millions of km).

* The roles of the stars are: (1) to be ornaments of the sky; (2) to stone the devils; and (3) as signs to guide creatures in the darkness of earth.

No wonder the Islamic world is responsible for less than 2% of the world's published papers within science and economics and there have been a total of three Muslim Nobel Prize winners in the natural sciences since 1901.

It wasn't always this way and didn't have to be. With the establishment of the Abbasid caliphate and opening of the Bayt Al-Hikam (House of Wisdom), Islamic civilization and Baghdad in particular was at one time at the forefront of the world's progression and scientific advancement during the Middle Ages, producing several great mathematicians, astronomers and pre-revolution physicists and chemists including but not limited to: Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Battani, Al-Birruni, Ibn Sahl, Jabir Hayyan, Alhazen, Omar Khayyam. Words like algebra and algorithm are derived from Arabic.

Where it went wrong, declined and all but collapsed predates the Mongols Siege of Baghdad with the rise in popularity of the Sunni Ashʿari school of thought based on clerical authority and rejection of cause and effect reasoning. They won out. The most influential proponent of it Al-Ghazali is even frequently cited as the most significant Muslim next only to Muhammad largely for this reason.

When you get raped by a Muslim in Germany it's your fault for being too close to strangers and failing to properly defend yourself. In a country which does not even want you to have adequate means to defend yourself in the first place. Welcome to liberalism. Just blow a whistle or wear a "no rape" wrist band and you're going to be safe. Keep a distance of more than an arm's length. Because no rapist could ever possibly close such a massive distance in an attack. How the hell do people voluntarily vote for this cultural suicide?

German Mayor Says Women Should Stand Away From Strangers To Avoid Being Attacked

“There’s always the possibility of keeping a certain distance of more than an arm’s length — that is to say to make sure yourself you don’t look to be too close to people who are not known to you, and to whom you don’t have a trusting relationship,” Reker told a reporter who asked about how women could protect themselves. ”

GERMAN MAYOR Blames Victims Of Mass Rape, Sexual Assault By Muslim Migrants For Not Defending Themselves

"She remarked: “The women and young girls have to be more protected in the future so these things don’t happen again.

“This means, they should go out and have fun, but they need to be better prepared, especially with the Cologne carnival coming up. For this, we will publish online guidelines that these young women can read through to prepare themselves”.

"The Left" has done a great job utterly hijacking and reimagining what I used to consider myself with their non-stop OTT political correctness, identity politics, and "fuck whitey" rhetoric. It's becoming mainstream acceptable and is the kind of stuff that turns simple minds into actual 'Nazis' and ethno-nationalists. Not to mention bending over backwards at every turn to defend the most widely practiced intolerant, illiberal, anti-science, far-right ideology on the planet.

It's astounding how quickly these self-loathing gimps jump to make sure their "thoughts are with the Islamic Community during this difficult time" and speak out against "racism" every time a terrorist attack pops off in Europe when the bodies aren't even cold yet. Absolute cretins.

Angela Merkel reveals her potato soup recipe as survey shows half of German voters still undecided

This was a real jewel as well.

Germans are learning to love Germany again, and Merkel takes note

“I don’t think other nations, or other sports fans, see Germans’ displaying their flag as aggressive; it’s just what everybody else does,” he said. “That wasn’t the case before.”

The concept makes some on the left uneasy.

Efforts to define German culture are “often used to draw a line between us and others,” said Katharina Zimmermann, a 32-year-old who works in marketing in Berlin. She added: “It makes me shiver when I see a German flag.”

Das Land der Dichter und Denker?

Do we really need a lesson on why Germans should be proud? Hilariously enough, not even the particular little 1933-45 time period that so unfairly and overwhelmingly defines our history was bereft of human achievement and advancement.

And all it takes is the chancellor of Germany clicking their heels three times while saying "no more immigrants" for everyone of them to disappear.
Not really. It would have been easy to deny entry to Germany at the border. Maybe controversial and an organizational challenge but the legal basis was already there.
There are laws which allow a nation like Germany to reject refugees who try to enter the country from a 'secure nation'. If you take a look at a map, that effectively means all refugees, since Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, France, and Luxembourg aren't areas of conflict. Once they set a foot on German land, it's a whole new ball game. They have rights, they can sue against deportation, political decisions and changes in the law need to be confirmed by a parliament, the German chancellor has few executive powers compared to the USA (or France for example) etc.
Quite the opposite, many are now entitled to bring in family members from Syria etc

If Merkel party is winning is because.

1.- Economically, its kicking ass.

2.- The other parties platforms suck balls.

So the German people are more interested in their economy than safety and terrorism?

It's not really a question of mass migration vs economy because no sane party in Germany takes a tougher stance than Merkel's CDU.
Most parties, including Social Democrats and her challenger Schulz, definitely are to the left of Merkel.
There is the AFD, the party is relatively young, has a lot of problems with fights within their own party, scandals, negative press etc, they probably won't make 10%
The NPD is a straight up Neo-Nazi party, they're unelectable and would be banned from politics if they had any success.
The CSU is to the right of Merkel's party but they're somehow in a coalition with the CDU (I think it's basically the CDU in Bavaria) anyway and their votes are added up.
There is no real decision making, it's effectively a non-issue in the election.

But muslims!!!!!!!
Yeah, Muslims are a problem. They're overrepresented in every 'negative' statistic (economic inactivity, crime) and underrepresented in every positive category.
But they're not a factor since no electable party takes a tough stance against Islam and migration. Merkel's popularity suffered in late 2015 and 2016 after her handling of the refugee crisis but it didn't suffer enough when people compare her to more leftist parties and why should it, it makes no sense.

Correct.

https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/gg/art_16a.html

The law has been suspended on and off for two years now and there isn't much of a legal basis for that, so in turn countries at the points of entry to Europe such as Italy and Greece have just sent them packing up to Germany. FTR I'd have no issue at all accepting legitimate refugees in desperate need, particularly children. However, that isn't what's been happening and somehow a majority of them are actually young adult males of military service age.

So if we both agree they are utterly irrelevant to this election, why do people keep bringing them up?

People at SPD "campaign" events have been told to not ask the supposed candidate Martin Schulz about Immigration topics.

German Media is keeping quiet about it as the current polls show a preferred outcome.

current polls:

CDU (christian Democrats) 38-40%
SPD (Social Democrats) 22-24%
AfD (Conservative/Nationalist mish mash) 9-10%
FDP (Liberal Party) 8-9%
Die Linke (Socialists/Communists) 8-9%
Green Party 7-8%

"Democrats" x2, "communist", "Socialist" x2, "Green", "Liberal" , "Conservative".

No wonder Germany is screwed. Could you at least have a Centrist, Libertarian, or Reformist party with decent polling numbers?

So if we both agree they are utterly irrelevant to this election, why do people keep bringing them up?

Probably because it's a real problem, a political challenge, one of the most controversial topics of the last 2 years and it's a concern to the German population which influenced the popularity of politicians, so it's difficult to imagine how it doesn't matter in the most important political election.
I think that makes sense, to answer why it doesn't matter for Merkel's reelection vs Schulz you need knowledge of political parties and their platform and possible coalitions (and their popularity) in Germany. Most people probably don't follow European politics very closely. I mean most people don't follow American politics very closely.
Also, it's not utterly irrelevant to the election, I never said that and that's not accurate. Germans vote for a parliament, not for a president/chancellor.
It's significant enough for ~10% of the population to cast a vote for a new, incompetent, scandal-ridden and demonized right-wing party. Don't quote me on that but I assume it's the most "right-wing" party to be part of the German parliament since WWII, certainly in a very long time. Of course, that's not irrelevant to the political landscape in Germany. And the biggest losers of the election will probably be social democrats to the left of Merkel. So in a way, there is a shift to the right, it just won't influence who'll be chancellor.

The word "liberal" is used differently in some European nations (more accurately imo).
Liberals in Germany aren't leftists.

So the biggest EU nation is going to do border checks on EU countries, i dont think the Germans are willing to do that.

Its not as easy when its other countries who are dropping the ball.
