Whilst on a recent trip to Rio, I had the pleasure of making friends with Jeremy Arel, founder of Gerbil Jiu Jitsu; Jeremy gave me a leaving present in the shape of what will now be a very rare first edition gi patch and as a token of appreciation, I now have said patch sewn onto my gi :icon_chee:icon_chee

Thus helping spread the word of Gerbil Jiu Jitsu on foreign soil :icon_chee

Jeremy will soon be releasing a new design, so keep youre eyes peeled folks!

^ lol

why the gerbil?

That's his nick name his coach give him years ago. I guess when he first started training his stance was like a gerbil. You should read his "moving to brazil thread" its very well done and funny.

haha that's cool. I'm guessing his coach was Brazilian because when I was down in Brazil, lots of people I met had a nickname that was used amongst friends instead of their real name.

Yeah Gerbil is a cool dude, took me a while to figure out the nickname though haha

Jeremy's a cool guy, great teacher with an eye for detail, really enjoyed my time in Rio with the guy, both training and hanging out together, collecting Burger King crowns :icon_chee

His little tips and pointers he gave me have helped me immensely with my game and every time I pull off a move I got from Jeremy, I have to shout 'Gerbil Jiu Jitsu!!'

My students think I'm insane......

hmm, there's gotta be a nuthugger joke in here somewhere...

I think I've heard every joke imaginable, and then come up with a few beyond most peoples imagination.

Most of the time I hear the name "Richard Gere" and "Elton John" but it usually dies off after the first couple visit to a gym.

I didnt pick the name that's for sure, but I have to say it's memorable.

Is that a school name or somebody "creating" another style for something that already exists? I hope the earlier.

nah, man, it's just the location of your patch combined with a positive, supportive post by the OP, therefore...

Neither. The patch is just for me. When I start my school it wont be called "gerbil jiujitsu" that would be a marketing nightmare.

Haha, yeah I could see that being an issue!

You planning to start a school soon? Have a general location yet?

On the contrary dude... I think you should keep the name if you open up a school. If nothing else it'll get peoples' attention and get them talking. Also, I'm sure there's enough info on you (from a simple google search) so people can see what you're all about. Definitely keep the name for your school.

Yes I will be opening a school in Northern NC

I'm still saying no. I will have the gerbil logo (coming soon!) but I wont keep the name gerbil jiujitsu.
