Looking at his record (Wiki link), he fought Matt Hughes at UFC 50 on October 22, 2004 then left the UFC to go fight at TKO 19:Rage?

Then he came back to the UFC again to fight Dave Strasser.
What's up with that. I didn't follow UFC back then so I'm curious. Why did he leave?

Yes, it wasn't uncommon for fighters to jump form one org to another back then.

GSP probably did it to get another pay check.

This was back when the UFC couldn't guarantee you a lot of fights in a short amount of time, so non exclusive contracts allowing you to make money elsewhere where a bit more common. (or simply allowing your fighters to compete elsewhere despite contract stipulations)

Dude, France and Canada aren't even on the same contingent.

Unfortunately after the British whooped Frances ass, some of the French decided to stay in North America. They erode our countries collective resolve even to this day. It must be genetic, being a pain in the ass.
