I watched half of the new Steve Jobs movie. It's great. But I had no idea he was such a megalomaniac and ass hole.

Honestly, It's a bit of a turn off from Apple products.

But I wanted to bring up a discussion of these three dudes and ask if the rumors that Jobs stole everything is true. Also, Gates in comparison seems much more low-key and down to Earth than Jobs was.

Steve Jobs was an asshole and a perfectionist. However, he was also a visionary and allowed others to get creative. If anything it makes me appreciate apple even more.

A lot of people feel that apple lost that aspect when Jobs died. The rumor is that Jobs stole everything? I thought the rumor was that Microsoft stole shit lol.

Stealing is much different in the arts than in business. It's often inspiration in the former and blatant theft in the latter, at least that's my view.

I'd like to point out that not all CEOs are assholes, or are they?

They all are. Gates was an asshole too. When Xerox showed the guys from Apple their UI for computers, using a mouse and keyboard, they had no idea what to do with it. But Jobs and Woz knew exactly what to do and created the first version of what we know as Windows today. But they wanted Gates to write software for it. So they showed it to him and he promptly stole their idea and created Windows to compete with them directly. I don't know much about Woz, but he was probably the least asshole guy out of them all.

Dude I'm pretty anti-ass hole, but I realize business is a world that operates under slightly different norms.

I'm curious to know if there are any non-agro CEOs/Visionaries out there that are succeeding, partly because I want to know if agro is essential to success.

Apple stole from Xerox as did Microsoft. but Microsoft also stole from Apple.

Apple stole the idea from Xerox, but they didn't know what to do with it anyway. Gates stole the OS from Apple.

Woz got fucked by Jobs repeatedly and brutally. He was a good person that was brutalized by a complete asshole.

Jobs also abandoned his first wife and child. Went full on hippy natural medicine fanatic and died of a very treatable cancer because he thought he could cure it the holistic route. The irony is delicious.

How did Woz get fucked? Jobs was portrayed as being loyal to him in the movie, though I'm only half way through.

He had Woz code a game and lied about the commission and pocketed damn near all of the money. He was an asshole.

out of the three, bill gates is the smartest, and is a genuine genius. he forever changed the world with windows, and will now go down as one of the most philanthropic people in history. the guy scored a 1590 on his sat's. he was so upset that he didn't get a perfect score, that he took it again and scored a 1600. just one example of the kind of mind we're talking about here.

Not exactly. Apple made a deal with Xerox to be able to sit down and look at what they had in exchange for services. Apple saw what was up and Jobs new what to do with it but for some reason showed his idea in the early stages to Gates and his team and they re-packaged it and launched it 1st.

At least, that's what I've always read/heard about it.

Yeah, this sounds about right. But Xerox either agreed to show them because 1. They didn't know what to do with it; or 2. Weren't going to do anything with it. Apple showed it to Gayes because that was necessary in order to have him write software (and possibly drivers?) for it. But I think it was reasonable for them to assume he was going to write the code, not just steal the idea and compete with them.

So the whole idea was about a mouse and a GUI?

Xerox built that for their printers and didn't see the potential? What the hell.

A few things. . .

1. Steve Jobs is an excellent movie that deserved to not only make a hell of a lot more money than it did but also deserved a Best Picture nomination, if not an outright win. It was totally snubbed at the Oscars. Poor Danny Boyle.

2. Pirates of Silicon Valley, as mentioned earlier by @BVG, is definitely a worthwhile watch. It is pretty damn good, especially considering it's a made-for-TV movie from the 90s.

3. In the long run at least, Bill Gates has proven himself to be a far better human being than Steve Jobs ever was.

Gates didn't really steal from Woz. Woz is a mega-altruist who also doesn't really grasp long-term finance particularly well. He's just a nice guy who is happy sharing his wealth, and it's no surprise that in the end, he no longer has most of the wealth he would have possessed if he had operated like a shrewd investor.
