ESPN - Flyweight titlist Donaire, junior middleweight Kirkland fire promoter - Boxing

"Two of boxing's brightest young stars, flyweight titleholder Nonito Donaire and rising junior middleweight prospect James Kirkland, have severed ties with promoter Gary Shaw because they claim he breached their promotional contracts, manager Cameron Dunkin told ESPN.com....."

More on the link.

I want to see everyone leave Gary Shaw for neglecting Boxing for the past year and using it to promote his generic UFC brand

I don't want that, because though Gary isn't by any means clean, he gets Fighters paid at least. Nonito and James have other avenues that not a lot of people do.

I cant think of a single promoter who hasnt had fighters leave with beefs.

Nothing unusual here.

Like Tam said, a Promoter's License comes with a one way ticket straight to Hell.

i would've thought that we would've heard more about donaire since the vic KO.

Nah, Nonito's a man displaced. Good little Fighter, but his Countrymen really couldn't give a shit less despite how brilliant of a story that whole situation was. I mean he and his Brother both have the kind of life story of Sports that magazines like SI should be writing about. However, he's not ethnic enough to be a big name over there, nor American enough to draw his own big audiences here.

Well wouldnt people say that about Oscar right after the Olympics? He wasnt Mexican enough to be Mexican and wasnt American enough to be American. Turns out he got the best of both worlds.

No, winning a Gold Medal for America made him American enough by default. Nonito doesn't have that kind of Pedigree. I mean Oscar's book is "American Son." If anything one could have said that before the Olympics, or of Fighters like David Diaz, or Richie Sandoval back in the day...but not Oscar, he was groomed to be what he is.

To quote Mike Tyson "He [Don King] did more bad to black fighters than any white promoter ever in the history of boxing"

With King as the measuring stick, Shaw is a teddy bear. A big dumpy teddy bear.

I remember reading about him getting no love from the P.I. press....
