Media Gary Goodridge never been in any street fights

Nah, he's lying. Someone who has absolutely no fight background at all, can't just randomly pull this move off

No street fights doesnt mean he didnt learn at some mcdojo

Trained or not, Gary was a savage AF beast and overlooking him could be devastating !

That Coleman beating was nothing but BRUTAL. Hespect to both of them Warriors!

Yeah, but didn't they say what he stole was children ?
Say what?

Agreed. He literally won an amateur boxing championship right before his UFC debut so "I was just some random arm wrestler off the street with no training" is 100% BS.

Interesting, didn't know that. Do you know anymore details?

But yeah, not exactly surprising that he has a bit more experience than a guy with no street fights, no real training, and was taught the infamous move 5 mins before walking out to fight 😁

He'd have to be one of the most natural born fighters ever, to be as successful as he was, with that little experience.

He wrote about it in his book and there's some articles about Goodridge online that refer to his boxing coach Norm Bell who was well known coach in Canada.

Goodridge won the national amateur title for boxing which allowed him to compete nationally. His only national fight was against David Bostice who ended up fighting for 2 different pro world titles.

This article talks about Goodridge quitting his job in the early 90s to pursue boxing and how post-fight against Bostice was the first time he experienced concussion symptoms (The Bostice fight was Feb 1993 in a USA vs Canada dual meet).

Brutal crucifix. I remember seeing Gary mauling this poor guy that had no business being in the cage with him. I think Gary had him mounted and the guys was throwing these feeble punches up at Garys face while Gary just laughed "Childs Play !!". Felt like if the crowd wasnt there it would ended in a bad scene from Oz.
For the record, his opponent (Paul Herrera) was a good bit smaller but he was wrestler and wrestling coach, so he had more credentials than Gary.

I don't think Goodridge sold himself as a street fighter like Tank Abbott (who definitely did have street fighting experience). Gary claimed his art was Kuk Won Sool. Rumor is he went to a Kuk Won Sool briefly before the UFC and they awarded him a belt (maybe a black belt?) in record time.

But he definitely learned the crucifix somewhere. I heard he practiced it repeatedly before the Herrera fight. I'm not sure if the Kuk Won Sool guys taught him that or someone else.

But Garry was tree times the size of Herrera
Still, no one was just making up things like elbowing from a crucifix in 1995. I saw my share of fights before the UFC began.

Herrera was kinda stuck up, he waited till the hold was tight and didn’t even try to escape.

My thoughts exactly. Also this ko left me slightly traumatized when I saw it for the first time as a kid.

A lot of guys lied on their resumes to get a shot in the early days.

Thanks for the info, and wow that is interesting.

As a long time boxing fan, I know the names well. I've seen Bostice fight a few times over the years, first saw him against Klitschko in the year 2000.

It makes a lot more sense now. A national amateur title is nothing to scoff at, there are some skilled solid fighters at that level.

The question is, why is he acting like he has no fight experience? 😁 For the lolz or to make himself seem even more impressive like he was that good just naturally?

I'm sure he was overconfident and hoped to do what Mark Schultz did to Goodridge a few years later as the smaller wrestler.

Still, it's clear Goodridge practiced that move a lot before the fight. He wasn't an arm wrestler with zero experience in martial arts, street fights or combat sports.

He’s just like us… if ufc didn’t cap still growing boys at 265lbs, we’d rule the world of combat!
