Game of Thrones Prequel TALES OF DUNK AND EGG in the Works at HBO

Another Game of Thrones prequel is in the works at HBO. The premium cabler is in early development on Tales of Dunk and Egg, based on a set of novellas by George R.R. Martin. The stories are set about 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follow the exploits of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg). No writer is attached to the project at the moment.

Fans of the franchise have clamored for a Dunk and Egg series since HBO first announced plans to develop spinoffs of its biggest series ever back in 2017. It was not, however, part of the first round of follow-ups HBO announced in 2017, and Martin himself said at the time that "we're not doing Dunk and Egg."

HBO has greenlit one prequel series, House of the Dragon, which comes from Martin and Ryan Condal. The series, slated for a 2022 premiere, is set about 300 years before Game of Thrones and will focus on the Targaryen dynasty.

A second prequel, from writer Jane Goldman and starring Naomi Watts, filmed a pilot in 2019 but was ultimately scrapped. "After careful consideration, we have decided not to move forward to series with the untitled Game of Thrones prequel," HBO said in an October 2019 statement. We thank Jane Goldman, [director] S.J. Clarkson, and the talented cast and crew for all of their hard work and dedication."

The three novellas in the Dunk and Egg series are 1998's The Hedge Knight, 2003's The Sworn Sword and 2010's The Mystery Knight. They were collected under the title A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 2015.

Wouldve rather had the naomi watts one

germ will do anything to distract himself from finishing The Winds of Winter. you’d think the fat fuck would be in a lot better shape now w/ all this cash he’s been swimming in.

GRR Martin is a huge NY Jets fan. He normally goes to all their games and follows them religiously. He even has a blog where he writes about the Jets and gives the GM advice on trades and Free Agent signings. He bitches about their losses and wines about their coaches. All he cares about is the Jets so that is the only new writing he plans to do.
"The Jets played the world champion Kansas City Chiefs this afternoon, and the result was just what you’d expect.

That’s 0-8 now.

And Gase still has a job.

This one will have more legs.

By its very nature, it will be considerably cheaper to produce, as there's no special effects to speak off, none of the action takes place in cities or elaborate locations, and you only basically have 2 main characters and a bunch of supporting ones with a high turnover.

really? why?

D and E is finished. Was pretty good story.
No it isn't. Isn't finished by far.

I like this idea and always thought it was the best choice for a new show. Alot less serious and still get a ton of cool shit in that world. Some of peoples favorite parts of got were like the 2 people on the road parts. Arya and the hound etc.... this show is basically that.

The show probably wouldn't be as light though. I mean the dunk and egg parts yes. But in the stories there's major relevant shit thats going on in the background. Show would probably show alot of that stuff.

Looking forward to the LOTR series on Amazon over any future GOT adaptations.

I just made a shitpost without reading the entire thread. I love the idea of a light Arya and the Hound-esque buddy travel show. Getting into shenanigans and shit. They could very well make a bigger production out of it with everything going on in the background. I mean in terms of story, not effects and shit.

For the casual Game of Thrones fans:

Aegon V (Egg) is called Aegon the Unlikely. This is because he had to pass over 10 people in succession to get to the throne. It is believed that Lord Bloodraven (aka Brynden Rivers, aka the Three Eyed Raven), caused this to happen, though the mechanism of this is unclear -- as are the reasons for Bloodraven wanting this to occur.

There are still many unresolved mysteries in the ASOIF universe, and this is one of them.

its been so long, and its all been talk, we havent seen shit yet

I disagree. Not only is it a less ambitious series, but it’s far less complete as well. They will more quickly run out of source material which is several tiers lower quality to begin with.

yeah, sorry it has been a while since I have finished all the GRRM stuff... for some reason I thought D and E was done. It was damn good....back when he could really write.

I think dance of dragons was meh...

but fuck an A SoS was one of the best books I have ever read. If I could read more stuff like SoS everyday or read ANYTHING ELSE...I would read new SoS level stuff. OMG that was so fucking good. The Hound and Arya! Oh man. Ugh.... so damn good.

GRR Martin can shove Game of Thrones ......the whole encyclopedia of it........up his ass and jump off a bridge.

Ain’t no one got time for that shit no more.
