I just don't understand Gaethje's game plan. The guy is a wrestler yet wants to stand and throw hands with a better striker! Justin was a punching bag. The kicks were a good start but why not kick then go for a takedown? Or get Poirier on the fence and try to get him to the mat? I dom't know if it's ego or what, but why try to exchange skills with someone who outclasses you? Better to throw a few and then get to the clinch focus on what you are good at.

He has the skill set to be a champion but he’s in love with brawling.

He’d still give Khabib a hell of a fight. If he used his wrestling, he’d probably be able to beat Conor too. Oh well. Maybe he’ll learn from this but probably not.

While I think you are theoretically correct, this guy doesn’t seem like he learns from anything. How did he not go for a single takedown!?!?! Insane.

He decided he don't want decisions !

Wait, what

Lol

How the fuck is Trevor Whittman his coach

"Fundamentals! Fundamentals! Fundamentals!"

Thug Rose is a fast learner.

I think after 2 losses gaethje is going to comeback a different fighter. Not sure if it will make him better

He lives for the brawl. He wants someone to get knocked out, whether it's the opponent or himself. The only way he loses in his mind is if the fight goes to a decision.

Is it smart, if he wants to be champ? Definitely not. But it gets him to main event fights. Gotta respect the man for his unrelenting willingness to stand and bang.

Cant wait to see him talk when he turns 40. He has already started stuttering.

He claimed he was going to use his wrestling in this fight. His fans keep saying "hopefully he'll learn this time and start being smarter/more technical in the future," but it never seems to happen. Brawling is apparently a bad addiction.

As for "skillset to be a champion," I'm not sure. His striking defense is very poor, and his boxing isn't that good. It looked good against lesser fighters in WSOF, but he's been exposed lately. He has the leg kicks, heart and aggression to be a champ, I'll give him that. He also has good wrestling credentials, but his MMA wrestling and BJJ/submissions are still a question mark--at least against high-level competition.

The guy has too much pride for him to go for a takedown. It's just very stupid way of fighting. His striking is not even that good. But all he wants to do or prove is that he can KO anyone in a striking match.

He's got heart but no brain... he is the scarecrow from the wizard of oz.

I take it you don't like the head down punch and pray style.

hes a moron. with leg kicks like those he could be beating literally anyone.. but he just tries to cover up. as a defense..

Can't complain about Gaethje, dude just loves fighting, damn.

To be honest he was indeed turning things around at the 3rd round, too bad for the eye poke and, well, the TKO.

When he got wobbled I hoped he would go for a power double but he legit egged porier on to knock him out lol

I can appreciate what he tries to do, but I don't think it's worth it. Now that he's fighting more difficult opponents, he's not able to just tire people out by eating shots, and break them with leg kicks. He needs to at least try to switch things up, for his career and his health.

He's wasting his chin-health with this tactic, hopefully he's learned from the 2 losses because he could win this fight if he went for takedowns! His striking is really good, and he mixed some really good leg kicks in. He destroyed Porier his legs the only thing he needed to do was to mix some takedowns in, because Poirier his legs were done so he could easily take him down. But he preferred to strike with him, and he got hit and got wobbled but he stiill refuses to go for a takedown or even initiate the clinch. It's really a waste of his chin-health because after a while he won't be able to take those kind of punishemnts anymore.

It's wrestlers falling in love with their hands. It's not new.
