Boxer Tyson Fury has become embroiled in a doping investigation, we can reveal.

The world heavyweight champ is being probed by officials after traces of a banned anabolic steroid were allegedly discovered in a sample taken last year.

If found guilty of doping, he could lose his three world title belts and face a lengthy ban.

But Fury has denied the allegation with his promoter Hennesy Sports stating they were "baffled" by the story.

Experts are understood to have found unacceptable levels of nandrolone in a sample taken before he won the world title from Wladimir Klitschko.

His cousin Hughie, a fellow heavyweight boxer, also allegedly tested positive for the substance.

Both Fury, 27, and his cousin have denied any wrongdoing.

Test samples understood to have been taken between February and March last year, ahead of Fury’s first bout with the former champ, sparked the probe by UK Anti-Doping officials.

It is understood Fury and his cousin then attended a meeting in September, when he was told the levels of the steroid found were higher than the body would naturally produce.

His physique gave him away.

What the ..ll? A test from before the Klits fight? Something seems suspect

Seriously.

If it's true why did the fight still happen? Why did no one say anything until the rematch was postponed? How the hell does a non-golden boy fighter test positive and there are no punishments for a year?

The Mirror is suppose to be pretty loose right?

Hmm I'm not a fan of the guy, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until someone more reputable actually cites a source. So far it's just the Daily Mirror article (others have picked it up, but are only citing that article), which doesn't have any meaningful quote from anyone.

Yeah right now it's really only The Mirror as the source and just others picking it up. You'd think there'd have to be some legitimacy to it if other sites are also picking it up but that's not always the case. We'll know soon enough I'm sure.

So far the other sites are latching on to the "Fury denies Mirror allegations" story, so they aren't exactly taking the Mirror for their word on it either.

You know how it is, they all want to be first. Whether it's even true or not. Just look at Boxing Scene, they want to always be the first ones to get shit out. That's why more than half the time their articles are littered with spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors. They're in a real rush to publish their work and often give their spellchecker a big fuck you.

Reminds me how for the 5 years leading up to Mayweather/Pacquiao, everyone had "an inside source" that had information about how "the fight is done" or "the fight is almost here." Eventually a couple of them were "right".

That was the worst shit ever. I stopped following that talk altogether until the shit was literally signed, sealed and delivered. Boxing fans know they need to be patient but a half decade? I'd say that's beyond pushing our patience.

Of course theyve got no idea how that happened.

Why has this come out now and not before or right after the fight happened?? I like to give fighters the benefit of the doubt rather than just jump on every story I hear. I'll watch the updates on this one.

Exactly the answer I'd like to know. Why NOW?! This whole story sounds fishy as hell, very suspect. It says it was found at unacceptable levels before he fought Wlad and this was found between February and March, yet they didn't fight until the end of November of last year. And after this was allegedly found he attended a meeting with the UK's Anti-Doping agency in September, still between 2-3 months prior to his fight with Wlad.

The time delay is suspect on this one, why would a test from Feb last year, only be made public now?

They need to test Joshua next, guy is built like the Overeem of old.
