This WORKS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2U3YmP6VRs reaaaaaally well. i've been using this a lot. you can't sprawl when someone's that deep, but this is an extremely easy way to still get out. anyone know of any other videos/technique breakdowns for this? i wanna perfect it. anyone have any gifs of joseph benavidz doing this to might mouse? jb hit a PEEEERRRFFEECCTTT one in that title fight. it was a beauty. i can't believe no one gif'd it on teh regular mma gif sites. have u guys had any success with this? what variations do you put on it?
I use the funk roll quite often. I did a seminar with Lloyd Irvin BB Danny Ives and he showed us an awesome series with it. Whenever someone passes my guard holding both of my legs, i shoot in for the funk roll. I maintain control of the leg I grab and come to all fours. I then yank the leg putting myself into a crucifix-like position. if they actually wrap my arm with their legs, i pull the opposite leg down toward the mat to put them completely on their side, then turn in hard to secure a single leg, then i begin my pass. I know it's hard to understand, but it is an amazing series. I used this at an open mat at a gym I had never been to and no one could stop it
very cool from the side control escape, but it seems like it'd have to occur right as they get into the side control position.] edit: also cool as he mentioned the benavidez fight!
Benavidez used the funk roll again last night against McCall. McCall got a TD and right as he passed to side control Benavidez hit it. Was great. I've been using it with much success as a side control escape/reversal lately.
yeah i saw that too! he sat on his butt for a second before he hit it. it's a great move for mma and im' surprised more guys dont' do it.
All of Kolat's videos are gold. He has a sick online library that I have had access to for a few months and I learned a lot. Great technician. had hundreds of videos. Not as good as tech wave from Flowrestling IMO though.
