fundamental boxing/footwork > Dominick's wasteful herky jerky bs and terrible punching technique

i wouldn't rate Cruz's movement as wasteful herky jeshy shit. he managed to had a 13 winning streak, but his footwork is not based on boxing fundamentals. He just started to move a lot with feints but against a solid boxing background that's useless and it showed.

the way you worded the thread seems to disparage Dominick

imo its true, Cody's fundamental boxing and strong punching power was the deciding factor

he was not biting on the feints, therefore Dominick was not able to hit his famous "knee tap takedowns"

if Cruz got too close, the power punches posed a big danger

but no i wouldnt call it herky jerky wasteful bs because Dom did land punches, kicks, and a few takedowns throughout the fight, just not enough to win

It's a lot of wasted exaggerated movements. I don't think it's effective and like TC says it's mostly because Cruz is so incredibly big and lengthy for his division. Like Jones once he fights someone with a similar reach and stature his advantages melt away

Dom created a puzzle that they couldnt solve. Ahead of the pack in defensive striking, footwork, and movement.

TS is right in the title as far as the solid boxing technique Cody has was the answer all along. Cruz never fought a talented striker/boxer as Cody.

Correct solid fundamentals.
Codys check left hook
Ability to dodge combos
The tight 45* angles he stayed with.
However he did eat one to give one a lot but hey, it is a fight

Bullshit

Cruz created his own system that is well designed, he has an answer for every situation and creates tons of traps and set ups. It looks unorthodox as fuck by design because he makes himself very hard to read.

The problem was Cody said he's been studying Cruz since high school, he also trains with multiple people who fought him multiple times and most importantly, he's fast as fuck so he was able to rush through all of cruzs escapes and counters

Nobody goes undefeated forever. You can't win that many fights against strikers like tj dillashaw and prime mizugaki, but the moment you los, you were never any good

Also lol at "all you need is good boxing"

As if Cody wasn't the only person to completely shut down his wrestling except TJ (who came the second closest to beating him) and urijahs second fight (who was the 3rd closest to beating him)

it's always been the case. Dominick's success is due to him fighting guys he had a huge reach/height advantage on for his entire UFC career:

Charles Valencia - 5ft3
Ian McCall - 5ft5
Joseph Benavidez - 5ft4
Brian Bowles - 5ft6
Scott Jorgensen - 5ft5
"Trius" Johnson - 5ft3
Uriah Faber - 5ft5
TJ Dillashaw - 5ft6

This was the 1st guy he's fought that's taller than 5ft7. let that sink in.

and the rest of guys he fought punches like this:

You have a point. 5'8 Cruz is a fucking giant and only wants on size being 5'8

Cruz's outside footwork, serves a dual purpose. He does a chicken dance to irritate his opposition, and get them to come forward so he can counter or hit a double leg. Staying at range and fighting shorter opponents with less reach allowed him to fight with his hands down. He could just pull back a little to be out of range.
Cruz always had sloppy boxing. Some of the wide punches are the result of Cruz stepping in and angling off. He is at an odd angle and reaches back to land a hook. Sort of like slamming a door behind you. The weakness of low hands and wide punches got put on full display, when Cody stayed in the pocket to counter with straight shots.

how did he have answer for every situation when he literally never fought a good boxer that was above 5ft7?
and the one time he did, we saw what happened

his system only worked against midgets or fighters with poor boxing and or both

TJ had to strike wildly from outside to lunge and close distance, because if he didn't he would be sitting at the tail end of Dominick's range and be slightly out of his own, because he's signicantly shorter.

I still think tj fought like a meathead and sure one or two looping hooks without followup okey but i felt like the entire figthing tj was throwing some stupid hook and was afrqid cody would too but cody fought so smart. Cody is the new world champion and legit!
