Im LIVID about these shenanigans! No More I say.

If a champ turns down a fight strip him I say and let him fight for the title when he's ready to come back.

If DJ turns down TJ, STRIP HIM!

If Woodley turns down RDA, STRIP HIM!

What's with all these shenanigans?

Let's get back to business yo!

Agreed. In same weight class at least.

Boss gave me a job to go do; told him no, find something easier then asked for a raise. Sign me Dana

Only if the fight offered is vs the #1 Contender. No stripping of a champ if Dana offers them Nate Diaz to try and get some imagined ratings boost.

Dana's lost control. It's all the clowns fault.

I swear to god I'll pistol whip the next guy who says shenanigans

This is prize fighting not a sport.

You can show me battle rope workouts and guys drinking soy shakes all day.

I'd agree, if there was a strict protocol set in place for choosing who gets title shots. There isn't though. The UFC does it based on projected revenue. The champ in an organization should not have to fight any circus matchup the UFC chooses.

I'd agree if the sport was RAN like a sport instead of always a business. But it isn't.

In a perfect world, they would not only be stripped, but have it counted as a loss on their resume. For example, GDR's resume should read 7-4, with the word "Forfeit" written as the method of loss in her last bout against Cyborg. Cyborg was the #1 contender, Germaine flat out refused to fight her, so she pretty much admitted defeat and gave her title up without even fighting to keep it. That's a "loss" in my book.

You would have to make them employees to do that.

Socratically:
  1. in a perfect world, it's just not that easy.
  2. because without big fights, UFC doesn't make money either.
  3. fighters figured this out. so they have leverage at the negotiation table.
  4. the reason all this exists is because of a lack of a clear policy.
  5. there is a lack of policy because UFC enjoyed a freedom to create fights they wanted to fight instead of, say, a three-peat of champ v #1 contender GSP v Fitch.
  6. so they had a vague policy of a champ fighting a #1 contender, and then broke it whenever they wanted to.
  7. fighters figured this out as well.
CONCLUSION: the solution is to create a policy and stick with it.

but that solution means UFC earns less money, the whole point of having a vague policy they could break if they wanted to in the first place.

are you starting to get why this isn't so easy?

needless to say, i agree with you. i just don't think they'll give up their flexibility and freedom that fixing this issue will cost.

I thought they did this already. WME is just in love with dumb fights trying to strike ppv buys gold. They are desperate to get their investment back sooner than later.

Like the idea, but the DJ, TJ example is a bad one. I'm just as sick of champions trying to chase a second belt when they have not even defended their own. TJ should be stripped as well if he wants to fight DJ instead of defending his own belt against numerous legitimate challengers in his own division.
