Friendships in MMA you think were kind of fake because one guy didn't want to fight the other?

Guys who were never really that close.

I think Israel pumping up Usman and the "Nigerian Kings" all those years was kind of weak and the two saying they would never fight. I mean when is the last time we even saw these guys together? Burns and Usman were close sparring partners and they fought.

Also Jones and Rumble was pretty dumb... these guys barely spoke but we were supposed to believe they had a friendship prohibiting them from fighting?

When was this?
Actually you're right... I think Jon was trying to buddy buddy with Rumble but they were supposed to fight.

What I'm remembering is what he said afterwards

“Thank god that boy retired, I don’t know what got into him…” Jones said. “That weed must have been good! That made no sense, he was right there as the scariest dude around. He ain’t never getting down to light heavyweight again, thank god.”

I remember when the UFC was trying to make Tyron Woodley and Hector Lombard fight and Woodley said "we are friends and teammates, we'd never fight" and Lombard said "I don't care about that guy, I'll fight him" it just seemed hilarious to me.

it just depends on the individual. Some ppl hold friendships way closer then anything else. Others, will kick their friendship to the curb to achieve their goals.

Jon Jones was always happy Rumble destroyed Davis and also Rumble was pretty humble and supportive on Jones, this is one of the very few times Jones actually liked an opponent, specially since Rumble was sympathetic of Jones and didn't kick him while he was down during those difficult times.

I think he was giving him more praise than anything but make no mistake Jones would have fought Rumble regardless, they were amicable and respected each other but I don't think they had a big bond nor anything like that.

Ppl that have met and trained with Woodley have said he’s a pro good person. Lombard on the other hand, is the complete opposite. I mean if Dan Henderson, a person that barely talks says Hector is a bad person, it must be true.

What does that have to do with anything stated? Someone not being a good person is grounds to refuse a fight? Woodley tended to avoid fights and sat out whining for his title shot for a very long time. Lombard definitely has a wrap for being a piece of shit and I'm sure Woodley is a good guy but that's not what we are discussing.

I know Merab and Sterling are close training partners and all but I feel like Sterling knows Merab would beat him and is kind of manipulative. I could be totally wrong but that's the vibe I get.

Woodley probably thought they were good friends bc again he’s a good guy… Lombard clearly isn’t.
Sounds like you have some weird personal vendetta LOL
Also who did Woodley avoid? He fought every contender?

Conor and Artem

You come off as someone who never had a friend. Merab and Sterling seems to have a genuine brotherhood.

You come off as naive.

If Aljo was in Merab's spot would he be asking for the title shot?

Or would he be okay making pennies off the dollar instead of champ money?

It just didn't work for Woodleys brand
