He's a tough guy, ok," said Roach. "He won't tap out and he's a tough guy. I've never met the person. He might be one of the better punchers in UFC, but he doesn't fight like a fighter. He doesn't shuffle in his combinations and doesn't put any power behind his shots. He walks forward in a straight line and he walks backward in a straight line.

"I'm not really that impressed with his boxing. But, a lot of the UFC guys are from a different background than a boxing program. Most of them are wrestlers and they are more comfortable with the ground game. I'm training "Shogun" Rua right now and he's punching like crazy right now. He can hit with both hands. But, when I first got him, he hit like a girl."

"So Diaz, he walks forward with combinations. If you walk forward in a straight line he will kill you. But, the thing is that you just can't let him do that. You can't give him momentum."

However effective most of the time,
Diaz loops his punches too much,
some punches down the pipe could hurt him.

"Walk slowly to the side and he won't hit you once but his fans will say he won round 1, 2 and 5."

1,2, 5 Diaz

After the Maravilla and JCC Jr, I don't see Roach the same anymore. He underestimated JCC.

GSP has some of the best footwork in the business and uses angles, so I don't think he has to worry about it.

It's ridiculous to describe Diaz as a "killer". He's just not; he's a scrapper.

His strength is not quality, it's quantity.

Diaz boxing style is almost exactly the same as Antonio Margarito, does anyone think he is a bad boxer?

lol at Shogun hitting like a girl.

Oh look, Freddie Roach saying something positive about an MMA fighter whose striking is primarily boxing-based. He seems to forget GSP's reach advantage, his ever-useful jab (how does a boxing coach forget about a jab?), his much more varied striking, his speed advantage, his footwork, and the constant threat of takedowns?

I'm interested to see Shogun come back, but come on. Diaz a killer? Please. Anyone with half of a functioning brain can avoid Diaz's fairly simple game plan.

ha shogun hitting like a girl? he's smoking some fuckin crack or something

Did you watch the interview? He critized Nick for having poor footwork, little power behind his shots, etc.

I agree with GSP having much better fundamentals though.

Having the same style as someone doesn't mean you have nearly the same skill.

Old man Roach is funny lol

Let's ask Mr Plaster from Paris.

yea he cheated at one point, but you can't discredit his entire career or his skill set from that alone. Thats like saying all the guys in MMA that used TRT/PED aren't skilled at all because they had extra help

To say that Nick isn't a "killer" is highly dubious at best. He goes for it every round trying to submit or K.O. Going for the finish every time you fight is by definition a "killer". Nick Diaz never cruises to a decision, he always goes for the throat. Just because you don't K.O. all of your opponents doesn't mean that you're not trying to finish.
