I know a lot of you have probably seen this but can someone explain to me why he would change his own pronunciation of his own name?

It's only 18 seconds long for those of you who haven't seen it.

I'm sure this thread gets made once every few years but has there ever been an answer as to why he changed the way he says his own last name?

Maybe that's how he pronounces it. Any other videos of him saying his name?

Murr, Mir, I love him anyway.

Hmmm. Haven't seen this.

I thought it was just brawk mispronouncing his name

He explained it.. I'm to lazy to find it.. calling @KONE for the rest.

You remember that he explained it but not what the explanation was?

Must be quite an intricate explanation, but not TOO intricate, or else you'd remember because of that.

Weird. Now j really wanna know.

>Greatest strength is versatility

lol no Frank, its submission grappling

Outside of his ears he hasnt aged considerably from then at 22 to now.

Just noticed UFC was lying about Roberto's record. He had a loss to Dave Menne in Rings, but they completely excluded all of those fights.

The Frank Murr Curse is real.

So when Brock kept calling Frank Mir Frank Murr was he onto something?

I got dis.

Frank's dad came over here from Cuba, and barely spoke any English. Frank was raised here in America. In school, teachers would read his name, and pronounce it 'Murr'. So he pronounced it that way as a kid, growing up.

A lot of Cuban families that moved to the US are/were cut off from their roots growing up, because of all the crazy shit that was going on forever between the US and Cuba, Fidel Castro, etc. there is little connection to their roots, and larger family history. So basically Frank had one person, his dad, saying it 'Meer', and everyone else (Americans) saying it a different way (Murr).

When Frank got into the UFC, and made that video as a 22 year old, his dad saw it and said you know, now is a good opportunity to correct it, and set the record straight. Because 'Meer' is the proper pronunciation. Frank thought you know what, you're right. From then on: Meer. Until Bork Lazer called him Murr again.

Well yes and no.. Brock did mispronounced it but others including Mir also referred to himself as Mur in the past.

I don't remember where I saw it.. article or video or on his podcast but he did address the name thing I tried to find it but no luck so far.

Alright so like you would logicaly come to the conclusion is that "marketing" wise and heck even how people perceives you, first impresions etc in your day to day life and when you are named Francisco Santos Mir III (or Miranda.. that is another debate) and you have Moroccan, Russian, Cuban ancestors well good luck with that in this non judgemental and fair world right ?

So in high-school he changed the name to have it shorter and easier Frank Mir and sounds more.. American right ? except that Mir part that is still hardcore Russian so he started with that Mur bs and he said "his friends" started calling him that and his teachers at school went with that Mur so he got tired / used to have people call him Mur so he just went with it and used it in his early years so when he got the chance to fight for the UFC when they got that promo he was still the young dude used to saying his name in that way so he went with Mur until he felt confident enough to comeback to Mir.

In reality it should be Miranda I suspect.. but hey his father a few years back was like "oh no.. just Mir".

Frank Mir

or

Francisco Santos Miranda the 3rd.

Or the classical 'Frank Mur'.

What do you guys like ? @Oku @sirmorbach @Fahrenheit1221

The Miranda thing is a myth. His father, who is off the boat Cuban, was born Mir. When Frank & his dad were finally able to go back to Cuba together recently, they started to trace their roots and found other Mirs.
