I know computer hardware pretty well, but am a complete ignoramous when it comes to what constitutes a quality desk chair. I have been using an old swivel office chair that I picked up from a junk giveaway where I worked a few years ago but recently the armrest cracked and the gas cylinder was failing.

Caveat, I am on a budget. I can't go over around $85 at the moment and I need a new chair pronto. I am looking at two chairs on amazon right now each for $82. Anyway what chair are you using and what might you suggest for under $100?

    Essentials by OFM office chair

I weigh about 235 lbs. and would be using the chair for about 6 to 8 hours per day. Is it a complete lost cause to expect even a modicum of quality in the aforementioned price range?

    Steelcase Leap or Gesture

But I would recommend getting a standing desk with a treadmill attachment, Fatty McFatass.

If you are going to be sitting in it that long each day and weigh over 200 lbs, I would spend more than that.
Spending that much time in a shitty chair is not worth discomfort or health problems to save some money.

Do some research and put it on a credit card and get what you really want so
you don't end up buying a new one in 6 months or a year.

Full disclosure. I am not a chair expert.

Ideally, you would spend more than that.
But, at the same time, if you've been using a used one that has been falling apart, you may do just as well or better than that with your price range.

Just consider upgrading in a few years, if you're still spending that much time in it.
I splurged on one a few years back ($200-250ish I think?) and it is glorious.

Ok so I have also been looking at some in 200-250 range, I would just have to postpone purchase of another thing at the moment, which is doable. Is there any chance you could name the chair you are specifically talking about that you got a few years back.

It is even conceivable that I could also get a chair in the $350 range (I have been looking at some DxRacers) but I am trying to avoid spending that much if at all possible.

Stand up man. Stand as much as possible. They have standing desks for people that dont want to completely decimate their cardiovascular system. Id suggest getting one.

Is this an explosive 235 lbs or a pudgy, donut eating 235 lbs? Your answer greatly influences the suggestion.

That would be soooo uncomfortable, unless you just bend her over the back of it.

No one would ever look at me and say I was obese. 5'9" though and probably would be categorized that way by a doctor. I stated 235 as an upper limit, I range between 200 and 220ish from year to year. The chair doesn't have to be plus-sized.
