He dead.

R.I.P.

He had a stroke a few days ago apparently and died as a result of that.

He was appointed by Richard Nixon, a Republican, and thereafter became a flaming liberal nut job. He often opposed individuals' exercise of Constitutional rights, and supported expansion of government bureaucracy. After he retired from the bench, he made a bunch of outrageous far-Left political proclamations. Among other things, he called for repealing the Second Amendment. He also condemned SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh based on zero evidence.

But he's dead now, so I guess we can be more circumspect about his legacy. The lesson is to always vet your SCOTUS nominees, and when you're done vetting them, vet them again. You can't risk appointing another John Paul Stevens. The stakes are too high.

But I'm very sad he died. We will always remember what he did. Good luck on the other side.

Isn't it disgusting how the left won't stop complaining about people even after they're dead?

Gall!!!

He'll go down as one of the better Justices of his era and a man who prioritized a commitment to his country and to good faith jurisprudence over partisanship. More than any Justice of his era, or perhaps any era, his humility and the unrelenting power and clarity of his conscience shined brilliantly and let you know that, even when he arrived at conclusions that you disagreed with (for me, his dissent in Texas v. Johnson seeking to allow laws against flag burning) you could rest assured that he arrived upon them ethically, intelligently, and with the full weight of both his heart and mind. Furthermore, he, Souter, and O'Connor may also go down as the last honest and non-corrupt Supreme Court appointees that the Republican Party ever made.

You, meanwhile, are a worthless and miserable moron.

Misconceptions. One is that Nixon was a liberal by today's standards(and was even a member of the liberal wing of the Republican Party, a wing that was all but dissolved in the 1990s and early 2000s). No expectation for him to follow an ideology that's dominance of American politics started with Reagan. Before that modern American conservatism was fringe and every justice on the court would be considered a member of today's liberal bloc regardless of who appointed them.

Also whether or not you call supporting gun rights the "second amendment" is irrelevant to the extreme likelihood the amendment doesn't protect private gun ownership. Yes SCOTUS disagreed with Stevens but only on a 5-4 count. And repealing the second amendment doesn't take away people's guns just takes away the idea that the specific guns that the amendment currently protects(which is at least handguns) are a right. States or the feds would need to actually pass the bans if the second amendment were repealed the second amendment being killed would just make the constitutionality of said laws irrelevant rather than an avenue to sue over any form of gun control short of automatic weapons.

I condemn Kavanaugh because he's a conservative who's judicial ideology offends me. I think his appointment was more legitimate than Gorsuch even though I think he's a far worse person.

Also, @Lord Coke I don’t know if you do anything in the Central District, but Manny Real died a few weeks ago. I think he was like the most reversed judge in history or something like that.

It’s interesting how many Republican appointed justices turn out to be solidly left. I can’t recall it ever going the opposite direction.
