when i punch a heavy bag my forearms hurt
it doesn't feel like a muscle injury it actually feels like the bone hurts
its really wierd!
my hands and wrists are usually fine so what am i doing wrong?

I think what your discribing actualy is a muscle injury although u dont htink it is.
Correct me if i am wrong....but the pain u feel is NOT on the underside of your forarm (the side where the major veins are) but ontop of your arm the (hairy side).

If so then i beleive it is the thin band of muscle that runs over and next to the bone( not sure on the terminology). The feeling is very similar to "SHIN SPLINS".
If this is so then it caused by shock waves going up your arm caused by when your hand impact on the bags when u punch. Much the same way shin splints are caused by runnning on a hard surface and shock travels up your shins.

If this is so as i said above then its pretty normal and u have to condition yourself just like a runner would have to in order to avoid shin splints.

Take it easy when it hurst...prob best not to hit the bags but if u must hit them very lightly til u recover. After u recover go at the bags as normal and over time your muscles will start to strengthen and u wont have the same feeling.

If this is not the case then i am not sure what u have.

cheers stav, that sounds just about spot on actually
strange this is, i've been punching and using bags for years, its just that lately i seem to be punching WAY harder than i used to be
so basically i just need to grin and bear it for a bit

Np bro...i used to play soccer for a pretty good club when i was younger and during pre seasson in summer when the grounds are all hard and u are wearing studed shoes to play u know all about shin splints. Also i have gotten it in my forearms acouple times when i first started hitting the bags when i started karate and i also get it somtimes when i come back from a holyday for a awef weeks and start hitting the bags again.

I hope i helpe du champ.

its painful
i think i'm just bein a :eek::eek: to be honest
do you recon tyson ever whinged about his arms hurting? haha
you did help mate, cheers

That usually comes from over usage of the muscles in a horizontal stroking motion. I believe the official term is carpotunnelus beatus officus maximus. Ask your local physician for help.

you'd want to go to a doctor if you want to make sure, but it happened to me too when i was first starting out training (which you're not, you say you've been punching for years) and i just grinned and kept on punching.

my doctor already warned me off masturbating
i've gone blind since so i can't find my way back to talk about my forearm!

Take it easy, when your body hurts, its telling you something is wrong.. i wouldn't recomened continuing doing whatever it is thats making it hurt.. make sure u recover properlly or you'll only make things worse..

its actually the muscle ripping off the bone that causes shinsplints. just wanted you to know

i would guess a tendon or ligament is inflamed deep in there

that sounds lovely
off to the doctors i go then
cheers for all the help lads

we are sending people to the hospital over the intarweb!!!!

I'd say train your forearms more by either A. hittin the bag more or B. using forearm specific workouts.
