Look at Rocky Marciano. His gloves are barely larger than modern day MMA gloves and he almost never uses them to cover up. Instead it's all movement

This is so fucking stupid, watch his fights and then imagine that his opponents could throw step-in knees and head kicks.

you're a goddamned moron if you think that "proper" boxing defense does you any fucking good when you aren't in a boxing match.

Those are bag gloves. It's not like they were fighting in those.

Some of the best MMA fighters had/have some good boxing defense in their primes.

Majority of won't ever be really good at more than 1 field, mastering it all takes special individual.

Not sure why it's so hard to grasp.

I'm reality a lot of stand up fights in recent years have been largely punches moreso than kicks and knees

Wasn't his jab made more effective due to his dominant wrestling? He has a really long reach and jabs his opponent to death if the other guy commits to a kickboxing match and gets the upper hand then GSP shoots for the takedown. Look how effective his jabs was against hendricks (a good wrestler with lots of power in his hands). All of a sudden GSP's boxing wasn't so great.
