Is there a for sale section anywhere? Am I blind?

I wish there was. That would be 1337.

Nope it's against the rules.

I think they do allow you to post like a

"Ringside gloves for sale PM me for info" type things in your sig though.

Wow. That is really lame. A forum this large with no for sale section. That would really be a great resource for Sherdog users.

I made a thread about it a long time ago. Lot of positive feedback but I dont think we can do it.

Do you know how many people would end up getting ripped off with that? never going to happen.

Uhhh...Tons of industry specific message boards have for sale sections. They seem to do just fine.

There are a number of reasons why there isn't a for sale section here:

A) There are already well established resources for doing so. Ebay, craigslist

B) Sherdog has its own store here. People selling off their dvd's, old gloves, etc. potentially takes from sales that support this website and the forums.

C) Sherdog is also heavily supported through its sponsors. Companies like Sprawl, mmawarehouse, hayabusa represent manufacturers/retailers that cover training equipment, apparel, clothing, and more. People constantly selling 2nd hand gloves or shorts eventually can take a toll on a company.

Maybe you don't care about what 1 or 2 sales might do to a company, but even if you don't care about the direct implications, the lack of a For Sale section, and the prevention of other companies from advertising on the forums, all create mroe incentive for sponsors to contribute to the boards.

A for sale section might help the members, but it doesn't help the companies that contribute so much to the sport we all follow, and it doesn't help Sherdog to provide these forums for us.

I see. That makes sense. Thanks.

i have to admit that i had question and thanks for clearing them up nate

The answers are a cop out.

Check out forums such as

anandtech.com
hardforum.com
spawn.com
wrestlingfigs.com
chiptalk.net

All are industury specific forums which have stores as well as have forums sponsored by various members. All of the above forums feature a B/S/T forum which works pretty damn well .
As for people getting ripped off, sure it happens from time to time. It happens on eBay, Craigslist and on web forums. It would happen here too, but it should be up to the people doing the deals to check refrences, such as an established ebay account, or a peer to peer ratings system such as heatware.com. Also, purchases through PayPal would be more secure because of confirmed addresses, etc, etc.

A B/S/T forum on this site would be great for the numerous fighters and people who train on a budget who would greatly benefit from "pre-loved" gear. I think if the people who ran the site dedicated the time to look into it further, they would realize that it would generate more hits to the site, help current vendors as well as help attract new ones, and help the MMA community by being the biggest outlet resource for pre-owned goods at a reasonable price.

I've been thinking about making a seperate forum specifically for B/S/T MMA/Boxing gear but figured that without advertising it here (which would lead to a ban), it wouldn't generate enough traffic to be worthwhile.

I misread the thread title. I thought he meant a "ON SALE" forum where people post gear that's cheaper than usual so we can get good deals.

Hey Foz am I correct in my above post about being able to list things you have for sale through your sig?

Now that would actually be a good idea. Have someone create a weekly or monthly thread where people can list deals that are going on at various sites and at training-related companies.
