Tired of breathing dirty air? Well you'll only be 10 years behind France when the ban comes into effect.

New diesel and petrol cars and vans will be banned in the UK from 2040 in a bid to tackle air pollution, the government is set to announce.

Ministers are also to unveil a £255m fund to help councils tackle pollution from diesel vehicles, as part of £3bn spending on air quality.

The government will publish a court-mandated clean air strategy later, days before a High Court deadline.

Campaigners said the measures were promising, but more detail was needed.

The government was ordered by the courts to produce new plans to tackle illegal levels of harmful pollutant nitrogen dioxide.

Sooo... Gas prices will go down, right?

People are always saying our countries are run by corperation , that corps. manage our domestic and foreign policy. But that is only partially true . Such measures should tell everyone that corps. don't run the West , they have massive influence but they don't run the west.

Weaning away from internal combustion engines will cost the Auto manufacturers and OEM providers hundres of billions if not more in shutting down model lines, re-tooling, building new factories and modifying existing ones. It is a huge effort and a very very expensive one for the Auto MFGs to move away from their bread-n-butter product , one that hasn't changed since the creation of the auto industry. Meeting emissions regulations is also mighty expensive, yet the federal gov. and California has forced the auto MFGs to do so.

Electric trucks of peace.

More dangerous than regular trucks because they are quieter and develop torque almost instantly.

you neglect the fact that they will be autonomous

professional drivers will go the way of dodo pretty soon

I want gasoline and diesel and aviation fuel so I can fly my float plane to a cabin off the grid with a generator and 4x4 truck (for emergency trips to town). Unless things get to the point of electric panel 4x4s etc. I don't like the idea of everything being so electrical rather than mechanical. There seems to be more of a chance at state interference.

Isn´t Norway going for 2025 and Sweden for 2030?

"Rolling coal" really was the ultimate mouthbreather trend of 2015.

Yea stupid but pissing off some people can be worth tolerating a little stupid for a short time.
