Speaking on The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting), Melendez stepped up to the plate and owned up to his mistake.

"Well, you know what, I really don't want to go down a rabbit hole or anything like that. But the gist of it is I made a mistake. I made a mistake that won't happen again, and I'm not proud of it. I'm doing my best to move on from it, and I'm hoping everyone else can, and it's understandable if they can't. But I just want to do everything in my power to prove that I am still a warrior and I'm a great fighter and just wanting to move forward, to be honest."

Respect for owning up to what you did. I've lost less respect for you than I otherwise would have.

And yes, this is me talking directly to Gilbert. It's an open letter to Gilbert, except it's not quite long enough to be a letter, it's more like a post.

I didn't realize he failed a drug test. Was it revealed what he took and how/why?

I get what Gilbert and every other fighter is dealing with. Careers are short, opportunities for climbing to the top are few and the UFC are very selective in who they award them to. Meanwhile you have everyone telling you that you need PEDs because everyone else is on them. It isn't easy staying clean in that environment.

Except he sort of did:

Regrettably, I tested positive in my post fight urine sample for UFC 188. I did not inject anything, but I am responsible and accept the consequences for the results. I will make sure I am better educated about the products I use and their implications. Going forward, I will ensure no products I use will contain banned substances. I am sincerely apologetic to everyone who supports me, including my fans, sponsors and the UFC. I value your trust and respect and will do everything in my power to keep it.

Seriously, the only thing you did wrong is failing a drug test.

Everyone's on vitamins.

A mistake is when you accidentally do an interview in your house and let the camera guy photograph your stash of needles and steroids.

Getting popped for PEDs isn't a mistake. It's fucking cheating.
