Flying to Thailand this summer for the first time, the tickets are sky high, is there a tip someone can share to get a decent price on a ticket from the usa to thailand? Also is it worth it to upgrade to Premium Economy? Is there a way to get a deal on a business calss or 1st class ticket?

Any input would be great.

You sound poor!!

LOL Always wanted to try that cheap joke. :D Delete your search history broswer and try again looking at tickets. other than try price hunting/quotes with agents. I did on a airline and got about 40 bucks cheaper.

Or if you pretty, just put out lol.

airfarewatchdog I just found tickets for 850 if your dates are flexible.

use a travel agency and tell them from the beginning that you want the cheapest tickets possible. get quotes from multiple travel agencies on the same day, and tell them about each other. visit the travel agencies in person when possible, and take a copy of the other agencies' quotes on your phone, so you can show them. from my experience, that's the best way to get cheap tickets.

if you go the online route, then use kayak.com -- however some of the cheapest brokers they use are pretty shitty in regards to customer service -- but it's a good, cheap way to go if all you care about is price.

Try clearing your cookies as mentioned above. Fly on weekdays, extremely early or late and dont fly on or near holidays. Wait til an off peak travel time to travel roundtrip to Thailand from the US (summer season usually means higher prices).

Upgrading to premium economy or economy plus basically gives you extra legroom which is hugely important if you are over six feet tall on a flight around the globe in my opinion. I think there are some other perks but I never noticed it when flying to or from Southeast Asia.

Depends on the airline. I would go with the brand names like Cathay, JAL, Korean, Singapore, etc. Stay away from the Chinese ones!

kayak, momondo, statravel, skyscanner are sites that i use and compare for air tickets. however, when it came to tickets to thailand the cheapest i found without making a bunch of stops was directly on the carriers website. in my case i'm taking asiana and its only one 1 hour stop in korea from seattle.

Never connect through China. Never fly a Chinese airline.

could you elaborate on this please? I guess you are speaking from experience?

i'm looking at flights in October 2015 and transferring through China is one of the cheaper options. (I am flying from the UK)

my main issue with it would be the 12 hour flight to Beijing, then a 4 hour flight back to Bangkok/Phuket, in effect flying 'past' Thailand on the first leg.... but your comment suggests there are bigger problems with Chinese airlines?

Several things... Chinese passengers are extremely rude and have zero manners. Have you checked the news recently? People inflated the emergency ramp cause they wanted to get off the plane early.

Another thing is the quality of the airline, employees and the airplanes themselves. you can easily check airline reviews yourself... bad food, poor service, rickety planes, etc etc

I haven't been to Beijing since 2008 but I remember having to get off on the tarmac then taking a bus to get to the terminal. This might be an issue if you have a close transfer (timeframe).

Personally, I would transfer through Hong Kong/Korea/Japan.

Yes. Mainland Chinese passengers are the worst ever. They will cough in your face, spit on the floor of the plane, invade your personal space, and the toilets will be destroyed a hour into the flight.

You will have to clear customs in China, even if you are just transfering though. They will steal random shit out of your bag.

Over the years, I've transfered though a lot of airports while traveling to Thailand. Here is my personal rating.
1. Japan
2. Switzerland
3. Germany
4. Korea
5. England

101. China

I'm actually flying to Thailand tomorrow, through Japan.

Thanks for the advice I will certainly keep it in mind....

Have transferred through Hong Kong and Kualar Lumpur before with no problems, also flown direct with Eva Air.... all far to superior to the experience at Heathrow London.

This time the best cheap options look to be through Dubai or Abu Dhabi...

Good luck with your trip. Phuket or Bangkok this time?

Bangkok and Hua Hin

I would never live in Thailand. But it is great for short trips.

hahaha, this is so funny! i just dropped my friend off at the airport on wednesday for the flight to thailand and on the way to the terminal i was telling him how chinese passengers just don't give a f*ck about anything. it came up because there was a chinese family in line making a ruckus. the flight was actually going through korea though. i'll be joining him in a few days, also going through korea.

Are there no non stop flights from the USA to Thailand? I am glad you guys warned me about the Chinese flights and people, I think I would have to knock the shit out of someone for coughing in my face.

I'm sitting on the runway in the plane to take me to Toyko. Guess who is sitting next to me. Two of the most obnoxious mainland Chinese I have ever seen. One guy keeps making noises like he is hacking phlegm, without covering his mouth. Everyone is thoughly sickened by their actions, though they seem oblivious.

I'm going to get some video of this shit.

LOL, there was some chinese lady causing trouble on my flight from amsterdam to new york a while ago.
