Interesting interview with Mayweather regarding several of the topics we've been discussing on here. He talks about his ability to read, the biting incident, Alex Ariza in his camp, winning 11 rounds vs Canelo, refereeing, and more.

Highlights:

On reading: "Reading does not define my place in boxing history. Will God not let me in heaven because I didn't read like a news anchor? Me, myself, I would be perfect at reading if it was how I made my living and fed my family. Once again, intelligence and education are two different things."

On the bite: "I'm not really sure, but it's possible. It's possible. He did a little bit of everything. That night I had to do two jobs; I had to be the boxer and referee, so I had to do two jobs."

On Ariza: "The only thing I can say is that he's a strength and conditioning coach that showed me some stretches. Has he ever received a check from me? Absolutely not."

On if he wants to shut out Maidana this time: "Well, I think nine rounds to three rounds is a shutout."

He comes across more engaging and thoughtful in this interview than in most. If he sometimes plays a character, he doesn't seem to be in character here.

He's spot on about the intelligence thing. Many people think education and intelligence are interchangeable.

Even God isn't sure if there was a bite or not. I think we can put that to bed now.

He's not the sharpest tool in the box, but he's smart enough to adjust and beat everybody he faces, even in the rare cases he has difficulty in the beginning. I say it's good enough for him.

Except that you can clearly see it in the video. Floyd's just not using it as an excuse.

It's not really so clear, but okay.

And what is Floyd not making an excuse for?? What the hell are you talking about? He got the decision.

Outside of the ring he has always come across as if he has the intelligence and maturity of an adolescent. But unlike some other athletes, Floyd knows his limitations and allows better equipped people to run his affairs. He knows when to delegate responsibilities to people who know what they're doing.

when is this rematch?

I miss when you could look forward to a "big" fight in september.

Have you met Floyd outside of the ring, conversed with him?

So no. Just checking.

What are your thoughts on Bayless as the ref, I'm a fan and I doubt Maidana will get any of his funny business going with him in there.

Met him at a vegas summer league game, real friendly , and he usually buys stuff at one of the Tommy Stores on the strip where my brother is an assistant manager nice guy he says.

That is, if he's not playing a character in-person. :icon_lol:

I'm sure his domestic abuse conviction was just part of his character. He's so savvy.

Didn't say he was perfect. I'm not going to defend that. But he is not the Bane of Humanity some people claim him to be. Of course his worst deed is his association with the Beebs
