Floyd has fought 5 fights against fighters on recent ESPN top 25 fighters of the last 25 years list

Manny has fought 13 fights against ESPN top 25 fighters.

Even accounting for Manny fighting 17 more fights than Floyd, Manny still more than doubles the number of fights vs ATGs.

To what extent does this huge difference in resume even out the historical comparison between the two?

p.s. apologies for the shitty title.

That 13 includes losses, debated decisions and a brutal KO. Not sure what point you're trying to make. The consensus is they are both great fighters and floyd is higher in a ATG sense. Do we really need to debate this again?

The point is that Floyd has built his better legacy with a far weaker resume. If he had challenged himself by fighting ATGs at the rate that Manny did, i.e. twice as often as he actually did, who knows if he would have his zero still.

That relatively weak resume, which includes no in their prime ATGs, should negatively impact his historical standing.

It didn't help floyd that morales and Marquez weren't in his weight class so there's 7-1 in favour of manny for starters. Except floyd schooled jmm.

That's the difference, one guy is undefeated and one guy has a handful of losses. Plus he lost head-to-head when they fought.

What Manny will always get credit for is fighting tough fights and giving the fans excitement. His toughest opponent was JMM, so he fought him 4 times. He went for about a decade without hardly taking a tuneup fight. His softest opponents were guys who were still considered top fighters.

No arguments here. Has rold done a measured against all time on him yet?

I don't know, but this is his latest tweet. Pretty sure he meant to say years not hours lol

The only guys to legit beat Manny in the last 16 hrs are all 1st ballot ATGs. That's saying something

Floyd is the better fighter. That said, I moved Pac into my top 25 (he was hovering) after Saturdays win over Bradley (have him 3-0). Got Pac at 21 and Floyd at 14

Can you post your top 25? I'd like to see that. You're one of the more knowledgeable posters here .

Yep. Let me get into the office and I will (on my phone now). 3 names I struggled placing most with on the list were Sam Langford, Hearns and Pac. I am actually watching Pac/Morales 1 right now at Savannahs when I'm supposed to be watching twin(Charlo) spar, lol

smh...

regardless of how you see it, Manny winning the lineal title in four (arguably five, dpending on who you rated at the top of WW at the moment, although I would be inclinced to leave it at four) is impressive

We've been over this many times, Manny has the better resume by quite some way, better fighters and fighters in their prime, hence The Fighter of the Decade award. Floyd has his 0 and a win over Manny(although injured) imo that's not enough to put him ahead of the extraordinary Filipino.

Losses have to count for something. Being undefeated too. Never losing at the elite level is pretty special. You can't name but two or three fighters who have done it and none if them really faced all the class that Floyd did.

Floyd is clearly the greater fighter.

Unless you're a pit fighter... I don't want to hear ANY boxer referred to as a fighter.
Big pillows on their fists and mandatory slow dances in every fight.... that ain't fighting.
Now pit fighting??.... being thrown down (against your will) into a deep, dirt pit where no hold is barred.... chain link fence surrounding the top of the hole.... onlookers hanging out on the fence, looking down at you while hooting and hollering. Now that's fighting.

This argument is similar to the Duran and Leonard. Leonard beat Duran twice but most all time list have Duran higher than SRL because of heavier resume.

Personally, I have Floyd over Manny. Floyd the better pure boxer, Manny the better fighter.

Why would you post that in here when you know everyone is going to disagree with you?

Because I am a pit fighter.
Thrown down into a dirt pit (deep one at that).... against my will. Forced to fight another human being. None of our holds being barred.
Onlookers crawling all over the chain link fence... Thunderdome come to reality.
Hooting and hollering that only one man can leave. Bloodlust in their eyes.
500 times (well, after 500 I stopped keeping count). 500 times I've entered that pit. 500 times I've been the sole one to emerge.

That stuff stays with you.
