Ok, departments across the country have liability insurance. It is not as if every payout just means lets dip into some pool of taxpayer money.
And I have brought it up in numerous other threads, please someone who is saying cops should have their own insurance please explain, with some detail, how that would work.
As I have said, you want to see departments do the absolute minimum and not give two shits, self insured officers is the best way to make that happen. Why, the same exact reason you take care driving. Same reason doctors don't just routinely perform high risk surgeries.
How do you set premiums for officers who work Chicago, Detroit, etc compared to officers who work say Beverly Hills, The Hamptons, etc. Because if you have ridiculously high premiums for those areas that are high risk, no one will work there.
If someone has a somewhat reasonable and well thought out solution, I am more than happy to hear it. But right now all I hear is take it out of their pensions, that'll show em! Or make them have insurance!!!
