TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — The line between art and pornography is at the center of an education dispute after a Tallahassee charter school principal resigned, following accusations that middle school students were shown inappropriate adult content.

At issue? Students in the school were shown images of a Renaissance period sculpture, the “David,” leading to complaints that the children were shown pornographic material.

Tallahassee Classical School, a private institution focused on “training the minds and improving the hearts of young people through a content-rich classical education in the liberal arts and sciences, with instruction in the principles of moral character and civic virtue,” gave its principal an ultimatum to quit or be fired after three parents complained, according to reports by the Tallahassee Democrat...

Principal Hope Carrasquilla, according to the Democrat, resigned Monday after the school board chair told her to resign or be fired. Chair Barney Bishop confirmed to the Democrat that he gave Carrasquilla that ultimatum, but would not explain why due to “advice” from the school’s attorney. Parents were informed by email on Monday...

Bishop said...the parents who complained “didn’t like the woke indoctrination that was going on.”

...

I had no idea this woke stuff was so insidious it goes all the way back to Italy in the 1500's! if the school claims to train the minds of young people through a "content-rich classical education," why would one of the most famous sculptures in world history (of a biblical figure originally created to decorate a church!) be a problem?

Speaking with HuffPost, Bishop said that the sculpture issue was “one of multiple,” involving Carrasquilla

I disagree with David's penis being the sole reason to have to resign. Much less get in trouble, but It sounds like there was more going on

When you resign you get no severance

If they fire you they have to give you severance

Exposed female nipples from a Botticelli painting, perhaps. Even worse.

Guess I should have read the link and trusted my gut. He wasn't fired because of the statue. He was fired because he didn't do his job. I'm really a little tired of this idea that the left has that parents not be allowed to know whats going on with their kids at school.

What kind of statues do you think she was showing given she showed this one of David by Michelangelo and the fact that its a classical school? Probably just more Renaissance statues right?

Honestly this is kind of sad here. Just skimming their website it looks like this is exactly the kind of charter school a conservative parent would want to send their kid to but because of three pearl clutching philistine goofballs the principal lost her job for trying to expose the students to the classical tradition. I guess the principal should've known this could be controversial given how prudish Americans are but I think you'd have to be really, really uncharitable to assume she had bad intentions here.

Do you think that the people behind a charter school that focuses on classical education are leftists? Seems like the opposite to me.

It wasn't a he; it was a she. But that doesn't matter. Because the guy who fired her said they don't even use pronouns.

“We don’t use pronouns, we don’t teach CRT and we don’t ever mention 1619. Those are not appropriate subjects for our kids.”

The article was vague, but It may not have had to do with another statue from what the principal was stating. And It looks like they were supposed to ask the parents 3 days in advance before showing david's member

Though I agree the latter is a stupid way to have to resign

Seems like in Murka if one person just threatens to sue companies are willing to fire whole departments to avoid a frivolous lawsuit.
