Anyone ever converted a floor ring to a free standing ring? My floor ring has been working ok for the last few years, but as things pick up I'm beginning to run into some issues. Given that we're on a wooden floor, we built a frame out of 2x12's and bolted the ring to that. What I was THINKING of doing was having a frame built under it and bolting the corner posts to it with some hefty 12.9 grade bolts. Anyone ever done anything like this?

I'm thinking a lowboy frame with steel plates in the corner to bolt the current posts into. I attached a picture with the basic idea.

Just trying to get some feedback, thoughts, etc...

Are you gonna grapple on it because it sounds like it's currently just for striking...

It's possible that we may so some grappling in it. It IS a 5-rope ring, but generally speaking it's used for striking.

Yeah I've never helped build a boxing ring, I helped build two grappling mats back home though. One was basically a level pit with used tires as a shock absorbing element with some additional rubber mulch overlayed with 6 by 4 sheets of pine and a home made mat on top. The other was on top of a cement floor so we built a frame and on the sheets of wood we gorilla glued 4'' square cubes of heavy duty foam and then a home built mat on top....
