Alright everyone, I am kind of "fishaly challenged." And im about to make a trip to the fish market down at the pier. (redondo beach to be specific), they seem to have a pretty diverse selection.

My question is what is usually on your guys's shopping list when going to the fish market?

any reccomendations on fish? mussels, clams, etc?

If I had immediate access to a good fish market they would know me intimately...

Salmon and red snapper are my two favs, trigger-fish also if they have it. I also like cod loin, and mahi mahi. Get some scallops the size of your fist and make sweet, sweet buttery love to them.

salmon is my absolutel favorite.

sea bass i've never prepared myself but like ordering at restaurants.

also if with fish market you mean local grocery store, may i also recommend some tuna in a pouch. I like the hickory smoked kind.

Salmon, haddock for store bought.

Right now, it's fishing season, so trout all the way.

Salmon fillets, yellowfin tuna steaks, tilapia fillets are my favs.

Tilapia is great. Just douse it with melted butter and garlic and then throw it in the oven wrapped in foil.

Salmon is also one of my faves.

If I had a choice (and unlimited funds) I'd eat most of my fish raw as sashimi. For sashimi, I like maguro, sake, hamachi (try the fatty 'belly' slices), kanpachi (aka amberjack), aji, much more to list.

my shopping list is getting larger and my wallet is getting thinner.

ill definitly be picking up some mahi mahi, ive never made it fresh, and some more new zealand mussls. any clams you guys are partial too? ive had manilla, and they were fantastic.

ill be trying some scallops too stone.

I have just discovered this amazing world, I was never much of a seafood person before.

Fresh Ahi sashimi!

Wow I just found a tiny crab inside one of my mussels! is that common?

Tilapia is good if you don't really like "fishy" fish. I'm not a big fan of Tilapia though.

Good Salmon is great, as is Catfish. You can't go wrong with shrimp, mussels, clams or scallops either.

Tilapia or Perch are my favorites. Salmon is also great.
If I could eat sushi everyday I would!!!

P.S. I just saw Ronni Coleman on American Chopper. HAHAHA

Im a fan of Basa. Its a type of catfish that is raised in the Mekong Delta in vietnam. It doesnt really taste like catfish, in fact it has a very very mild taste, doesn't really smell 'fishy' and it tastes friggin awesome. They feed on smaller fish in a high water flow environments, are low in mercury content. The best part is that it is one of the cheaper fish you can buy.

Its a fish with a bit of history especially in the U.S, if you care the article about it is below.
