From what I understand, it actually just causes a shift of particles in your system from VLDL to LDL (resulting in a reduction of triglycerides but an increase in LDL levels).
Which is fine, because out of the subclasses of LDL, VLDL is the one to be mainly concerned with. In regards to fish oil intake and raising LDL, the actual method of calculating LDL is at fault, and varying levels of HDL, shifts in IDL and VLDL to LDL, and triglycerides all play a factor.
The downside of high LDL is slightly overrated. Also, just like nearly all medicine, the benefits of taking fish oil greatly outweigh the very few bad side effects. This is what makes fish oil an excellent supplement to take.

From Dr. William Davis' The Heart Scan Blog. Not exactly a footnoted quote or reference, but I'd take his word on LDL as sound, being a cardiologist.
Are you testing my patience, or is this a serious question? I'm going to assume you've read The Sherdogger's Guide to Fish Oil. The initial LDL question was an excellent one, but if it was safe or not was answered already in this thread before you asked.
I just died from taking fish oil. Luckily Hell has wireless internet,so I'm able to warn you of the dangers of fish oil.
