first vid-
don't let him control your neck as much as he did. work on your posture, and also on controlling him (dont let him get his grips on you!).
you should have shot for a takedown, or worked from the clinch to a trip or a duckunder.
flying armbar was ehhh, not to take anything away from you, but considering this is a match, your opponent seemed to just sit there and wait for you to improve the armbar and not even try to escape. most grapplers would slip their arm right out no-gi. but good job on getting the win!

second vid-
careful with your shoots bro, that gullotine + sweep could have ended the fight right there, but he let it go. bro you have to BRIDGE (upa) & create space & shrimp to escape side-control, not just roll over & give up your back! your opponent did not know how to hold down side control, he allowed you to sit up & continue from a neutral position. you should have tried to get out of half-guard instead of stand up and let him go into open-guard. lol that was a wild guard pass, it worked but still, you should killed the space and controlled his knees. it's really more of the same from then on. good heart though.

I am assuming this is novice division..? I mean no offense if I am mistaken =]
p.s. what weight class are you competing in?

it was under 65 kilogram which is 145 i guess!

my weight is 58 KG (128 pounds)! i gave up some weight because there are no low weight classes like that for me... =(

eventhough it was a normal tournament (no beginner class) and heelhooks, etc were allowed, my opponents were all beginners like me.

the first video is my first grappling fight ever.

edit: thx for your input! i appreciate it!

Geez gain some weight, you were probably 10 lbs lower than everyone. Good job and props to you for competing.

How long have you been training?

I would recommend not going for that flying armbar anymore.. #1, it wasn't deep, even when he tapped it didn't look deep, and 99.9% of the people would have gotten out before you went to the ground.. On your shot, don't initiate the shot from a back step.... and when you go for the shot, don't spread your arms wide open and keep neck out.. be sure to keep your shoulders up to avoide the choke.

In the second fight, when they guy had your back and went for mount, block his knee and roll into him.. You could have improved your position instead of letting him get the dominant position.

When you were in side control, you thought too much of just mount, and not maintaining position.. Suck up his arm, control the position and work to mount, or knee on belly then mount... You easily gave him the half guard.

When you had his back, what were you trying to do? You just laid there until he did something, you should have thrown in your hooks, he wasn't blocking them, if I am not mistaken, you could have easily trapped an arm too, thus giving you a MUCH better chance to work in a RNC.

WHen you were in half guard, don't worry about playing patty cake.. or handsies.

Your lucky your opponent kept opening his guard, and letting you out, because you weren't working on passing the guard. I think you started to dig your elbows, but you had no posture.

I only got 5:30 into the second fight, when I couldn't take it anymore.. he had your back, and since you said it was a 10 min fight, I figure the position was reversed really quick, and what not...

Nice to see you compete at a way higher weight though :o)

ah thanks for the tips!

i come from a striking background and started training submission wrestling for about a year or so to defend against all the fucking grapplers :P!

i tried the flying armbar before in training and almost all of them were lousy attempts. i think it was the second time it worked in my life. i am still surprised i got the armbar! my coach didnt teach it... i saw rumina sato doing it and always wanted to try it.

my takedowns are real crappy i know! ^^

thanks for the advices.

EAT!

Giving up nearly 20lbs must have been tough! But I'm sure you already know that.

his flying armbar was perfectly fine, besides it looked like he was pulling guard and the arm was right there... and if that didn't look deep to you, i don't know, it looks extended

bro you dont have to put on weight if you don't want want to, BJJ was designed for the little guy. Just keep that in mind when people tell you to put on some weight, the choice is yours!

yes i would like to gain some weight to atleast come close to the 145 class.
but its so hard for me.
its not only the competition but also in training its hard to find good training partners because most of them are so big... i am getting throwed around like a rag doll. :(

and of course bjj was designed for the little guy as you said but when the big guy is good at BJJ too, then youre fucked. btw, i am training luta livre and no bjj. ^^
