Am going to my first class tonight and was wondering what should I expect besides getting humbled.

IF its 1 with the instructor 1vs 1 he';ll teach u basic positions, make u do some situps pushups, and some basic throws. If its first group class ull doo a warm up followed by some takedown practice, then some specific drills, then some rolling. have fun.

expect a good time. all classes are run differently, but you should have fun.
good luck.

all I can say is, don't get discouraged or demoralized. you're most likely going to get your ass handed to you. accept it graciously.

oh yeah

and stay calm

yea good advice man

stay calm and dont rush into things i guess

classes vary a lot from place to place

good luck!

You should expect pain and suffering in the extreme! A wicked choking feeling. The feeling that your limbs are being torn asunder at the joints. But have fun and enjoy yourself.

you should expect to get tapped a lot and be gassed in the first two minutes of rolling.... lose the ego and enjoy...

remember to stay calm and dont lose yer cool..... remember to move around always move.

LOL, wicked.

i wonder how difficult rolling is, when i first started boxing i gassed pretty quick (but i never worked out when i FIRSt started boxing, so its easier for me now of course :p).

so howd it go man... please fill us all in. hopefully it didnt go down like someone's first class last week (dislocated shoulder).

i remeber first boxing and wow i remember being dead tired not being able to lift my arms haha

enjoy the jiujitsu. remember the students will be vary of you. the instructor is used to seeing students drop out. it will take you time to become friendly and get to know the others.

so if you want to be part of the family, make friends, talk to your instructor, respect others, leave your ego at the door, and do not be a drop out statistic for your academy when your training is not going well.

Depending on the School programe... See some basics maybe roll a litle etc.

STay calm and humble. You are there to learn. This is one of the greatest sports you can play, and also can be a bitch. You are going to get out of it what you put into it. Don't go turbodestructo. Fast is slow, so don't be a spaz. Tap early and often for the first year. Have some fun and you will improve really fast, then won't improve so fast for a while. Make sure you have fun first and respect your training partners.

man i hope i get tapped immediately, i hope everyone owns me. that would at least show me ur learning something from the school LOL

Expect to have lots of fun, and don't take it too seriously. Nobody could possibly care less how a novice white belt performs, so don't worry about how you look or impressing people. Just listen to the instructor, stay safe, and have lots of fun.

Rolling is, IMHO, vastly less tiring than boxing, so I don't think you need to be worried about that, unless you are really overweight or out of shape.

nah im neither of those LOL

looking forward to my first classs! ahgghh!!

Well went to class and the instructor had me just sit and watch which was fine by me. I at least know now what the guard is and the half guard. Wednesday night he said I will join them on the mat and he will show me some basic stuff. The instructor talked to me on the side about just take it easy at first and stay relaxed as I am bigger than the average student there although they can and will tap me out easy he just don't want me to try and muscle throguh everything and hurt someone or myself. The other students there were pretty cool and I think getting along with them will be no problem. As for ego that won't be a problem as I am mainly doing it to help get in shape. I just wanan take it easy and learn the skill of BJJ and how to acheive victory by using skill and not relying on size.
