Thousands of migrants, including families, set off to travel thousands of kilometers through Central America to the US. They are hoping to leave behind poverty, unemployment, gang violence and natural disasters.

Up to 3,000 nationals of Central American countries have left the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula as part of a migrant caravan planning to walk to the United States.

Guatemala’s immigration authority said on Saturday that between 7,000 and 8,000 migrants and asylum seekers had entered the country since Friday and were heading towards Mexico.
