Finishing the triangle

    Hi guys,

    I have trouble finishing the triangle, when the opponent falls backwards, that seems to loosen up the choke and give him space to escape.
    How can i keep the pressure ?

    Push his leg up and flip him over.

    Debatable.
    Use their momentum to come on top into a triangle mount and finish with the choke or attack an arm.

    Maybe your problem is in the set up, if your opponent is able to fall backwards to escape, maybe you need to break his posture down more before going for the triangle.

    Squeeze tighter and work on your figure four adjustments and angles, different arm in positions and armlocks, the underhook on the free arm or under the leg, controlling the head.

    posture should be destroyed before synching it up, then underhook the leg and they can't fall backward

    Squeeze tighter? Shouldn't it be slow constant pressure on the arteries as to not burn your legs out?

    When it comes to a triangle if your doing it right then you only have to squeeze for a second or two, so hard is OK. But yes I was also taught to use constant pressure.

    One thing beginners do when squeezing the triangle is they just flex their hamstrings, but you should be squeezing your knees together to make the gap (where their neck is) smaller. A good way to see how this works is to lock up a triangle with no one in it, then try to close the gap in the figure four. It won't close just by squeezing/flexing your hammys.

    Hook his outside arm to scoot yourself perpendicular to him and your legs will squeeze better using the big muscles, Ryan Hall style.

    This. Hell I'm just a white belt but I do understand that a triangle won't happen if the opponent is postured up.

    I don't do that at all. That'll just burn your legs out. Just shift your hips to the side.

    Control the head giving them no room to posture up. Then turn the angle like Ryan Hall and underhook the leg. They're not going anywhere after that.

    This is actually the exact opposite of what most people on here do to finish their triangles, watch this.

    I actually prefer underhooking the arm, I feel like I have more control and it prevents me from kicking them over

    I prefer the leg. Gives me more to hold on to.
