Final Fantasy XI

Does anyone still play this? I'm looking into getting back into an MMO to play for fun and FFXI has always intrigued me but i never really tried it for some reason.

Recently, I played Wow's new xpac to max level and finished the raids (that were out at the time atleast) and FFXIV at launch. Got my AF+1 stuff and then stopped playing due to lack of content. But also just didn't like the way the gear was set up. It was always the same looking gear, just with a bit better stats.

I went to go try it out today, but apparently they don't give out trial codes anymore (even though it says 14 day free trial on the home page? lol) And don't wanna buy it if the servers are completely dead.

Anyone on here still play?

I wouldn't recommend it. Played it back when it first came out and it was a full time job to make any progress. I tried it last summer to see if they changed anything, and the only thing they did was make it easier to level up. But the game is more of a chore than it is "fun".

Stopped playing just before the last expansion came out with the two new jobs. Always had fun playing it.

Used to be unforgiving as hell, much more accessible now.

Have tons of content for a new player, and they removed the level caps on lots of it so you can duo/solo some of the stuff that used to take a group of six/alliance of 18 to do.

Playstyle is very different from WoW and even XIV. Only have a couple of abilities that you can use (unless you're using magic) and you're not spamming abilities on a GCD. I'd check out some videos if there's not an option for a trial.

Also, if you haven't tried already, I'd recommend Star Wars : The Old Republic. It's F2P now, is similar to wow but the class stories are amazingly well done.
