So I saw this trending. Apparently the director of FFXV had this to say about Square-Enix staunch stance to change.

Can't say I disagree with him. Most board room suits philosophy when millions and billions of dollars is on the line on a big intellectual property is to say "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and a lot of Squares recent risks have bombed like FFXIII.
Controversial thing to say but again change is a good thing. People getting rustled in the FFXV thread cause of the new combat have to understand that sometimes change is good.
Some real talk from the FFXV director here.
So what's the FF disease? “It refers to people within the company who can’t imagine anything other than their own view of Final Fantasy. Since the root is a strong self-affirmation, one’s own view of Final Fantasy takes more priority than the team’s success. If that view of Final Fantasy isn’t fulfilled, then they’re convinced that it’s bad for Final Fantasy."
When nostalgia becomes a bad thing- you don't want to change the status quo so much that you think it's the best and nothing can surpass it- but in reality change was the only thing keeping FF alive- imagine if we'd have 15 FF's similar to FF1. I'm sure it wouldn't even make it to FF7.
