Re-watching some fights i found myself asking if i would have stopped the fight if i was that ref. (obv i wouldn't i'm devoted to the Just Bleed it Gods). But in all seriousness, some combats could have continued, what is the criteria to define a fighter is not defending himself ? For example. Silva x Sonnen 2 : Sonnen was covering his face completely, he took a body shot and probably was "waiting" it out.
Fighters usually do that when they're hit with body shots, but the strikes Anderson delivered to Sonnen on the ground were almost all in the gloves, barely hitting Sonnen's ears.
I know if the ref doesn't stop in this case is just a beat down on the ground forever while the other fighter tries to wait until he can get back up, but would you stop fights where the guy is being pounded on the ground with ineffective strikes and glove punches ?? i remember after RDA x Cerrone 2 a lot of people said it was stopped too soon, the Silva x Sonnen 2 was a similar thing imo. What you guys think ? which fights you felt like the other guy had chance of recovering ?
