It seems fights and events happen so fast and once done there is no more nostalgia.

This came to me when folks were talking about the epic rematch of gsp and bj Penn which featured the debut of UFC prime time. I compared it to may mac build up and everyone paused because for a moment they forgot it ever happened despite being more recent.

Is this normal? Conor is twice as famous as gsp and bj Penn but it seems like his moments are not being captured in nostalgia.

    Forgot May Mac?

This is an MMA board, I'd say the majority of people here are MMA fans. May Mac was not an MMA fight and has little relevance to MMA, so why, on an MMA forum would you compare it to GSP Penn?

MMA fans have always pretended the past was better and the present day sucks. Its nothing new. 15 years from now MMA fans will do it all over again reminiscing about the good ol days of Khabib, Conor, Jones and DC while bitching about the current fighters

Give it a few years. Wait until he's old. Then people will miss him.

People used to hate on GSP -- including me -- for having boring 25 minute wrestling matches all the time. Now we all realize how special those fights were and wish we could live through them again.

Also another reason might be the atmosphere back then. Fight nights at bars were electric back then. They suck balls now with like 2-3 internet nerd fans in the entire bar and everyone else watching football. It made stuff just feel iconic.

Back then, the entire bar roared with emotion when Randy knocked down Tim. If that fight happened today, there'd just be 2 dorks quickly picking up their phones to post in the sherdog pbp while everyone else is watching the patriots pissed that the 2 ufc dork fans are taking up a TV.

Living through another 25 minute GSP top control seminar is definitely not something I pine for.

That fight was a spectacle. Why would people on an MMA forum reminisce about it? The anticipation of GSP vs Penn 2 was fantastic. That fight had/has meaning.

Sounds like you might be going to the wrong bar especially if you are talking about PPVs. For the most part everything back in the day were PPVs, so when you'd go to a bar it was an event. Now with so many events if you are just watching a random card at a bar it will probably be on one tv and definitely no audio. But if you go to a good bar that orders every PPV you will usually have a fun crowd with that old nostalgic feeling.

Not really, no matter what bar you go to it seems like no one gives a shit unless it's conor fighting. Hell I remember folks going CRAZY during the riggs/Diaz fight much like a conor fight despite they were being main event openers.
