Fighting Fungus work out log!

    I was very disappointed in my squat. I am not sure what it was, but I felt weak squatting today. I do have a cold, and have been eating clean so that may have something to do with it(less calories). Also the clasps at the gym suck. Will hit the gym on Thursday and attempt 230 for 3x5.

    When I went for the second rep I fell forward and had to drop the bar and jumped over it. I know that I used poor form being that my legs were not close enough to the bar.

    In summary

    My squat felt good but I still need to stretch and get more flexible

    My bench felt good but I have always had a good bench

    My deadlift was horrible and I went from 255-275 in 1 week. Will go for 265 next week,

    Have not been to bjj since Dec 5th. Can wait to go back and write it down on this log

    Happy with my work out today. Need to get back to cardio training and more importantly back to Bjj!

    Felt good lifting today. Need to get back to bjj how ever.

    Need to get back on cardio also.
    My diet hasn't been the greatest but I feel strong.

    Very happy with today's workout. Am happy with my progress as far as strength goes.

    Will lok to get back in bjj this week!

    Am seriously thinking about purchasing a grappling dummy so I can rep techniques at the comfort of my own home!

    Progressing nicely according to max calculators my max in the big 3 is around 916. Once I reach 1000 I will still lift but lift a little lighter and look to improve my cardio more!

    305x2- I know I am stronger than this. Felt burned out from bench and squat. Will try to do deadlifts first in my next work out! Will go for 305 x5

    I am about 70 pounds or so from obtaining 1000 in the big 3

    I cut my work out short despite having 2 sets on power clean. Didn't eat well and I felt it n the gym!

    Everything felt heavy in the gym today, didn't have it. Will do better next time!

    Clark Gracie Bjj seminar Class 6 since purple

    The seminar was very basic and showed some details of how not to get cross faced from half guard!

    A few points

    -when opponent grabs pants pull wrist away and bring back leg under arm.
    -if your late with that grip one hand on bicep, and shoulder to avoid cross face.

    -we also learned a few nice sweeps from half butterfly.


    Have not been to bjj since Dec 5th and it felt great to be back!

    Fundamental class Class 7 since purple

    I attended the fundamentals class today and the class was centered around the guillotine choke with self defense applications.

    Technique 1

    Oppononent shoots in for double leg place both ands on shoulders,from here you have an option to knee or lock up a guillotine or both.

    If opponent doesn't tap to guillotine you have option to step on opponents opposite foot of your choking arm and bring him to your guard and finish. Make sure you fall toward choking side and be mindful of him hopping away from the guillotine.

    Technique 2 was bottom closed guard.

    Break off opponent grips by swimming under like a prayer and pulling opponent in with legs at same time. When opponent postures up go for basic hip bump, if opponent pushes back into you scoot out and lock up a guillotine.


    Rolling (only positional sparring done)

    Rolled with 2 white belts I was going at about 50 percent.

    Things I did well

    Caught a white belt from closed guard with basic collar choke.

    Passed well

    Things I did bad

    Stood up in opponents guard with out good grips.

    Used leg lasso in open guard and felt very rusty with it. I let opponents beat me to the grips. A4stripe white actually passed my guard. I was only going 60 percent but still was a little disappointed.

    Summary

    I sucked in rolling today but was out for 10 weeks so I don't feel so bad. Will go to work today and maybe watch some DVD on closed guard if it's slow!

    Went to the gym today and all the squat racks, cages were in use so I decided to start with bench instead of squat!

    Today I attended a fundamentals class and learned a really good detail regarding self defense. The key things I learned is when in side control on bottom in self defense situation you want to keep the guy close to avoid strikes. Basically you want to be patient and escape when opponent wants to create space to strike. Also always be mindful of punches in a fight and control opponents head from closed guard!

    Went about 60 percent in sparring with a 2 stripe white belt. Still feeling rusty will attend another 4-10 fundamental classes and than I will jump straight in to the advanced classes for harder sparring! Need to get timing and confidence back.

    245x5 (didn't do 1 rep clean the guy that was spotting me had his hands on every rep, I told him I am going to do 3-5 clean reps and if I need help than spot me, he didnt listen. Lol

    Deadlift

    I did 310x5 last week and this week did 315x1 (had dental surgery 2 days ago so that may have something to do with it)

    Watched Andreh andersons closed guard DVD and can't wait to get back to bjj and drill some of his sweeps. Still waiting on my grappling dummy.

    Today we worked on headlock escapes from standing and on the floor. We also did positional sparring from side control and was happy with my performance! Am feeling better and am ready to attend the advanced classes again.

    Worked on side control escapes after class

    Granny roll when in turtle remember to roll over nearest shoulder.

    The other was guard retention block opponents hip with left hand and sit back to guard.

    Attended fundamentals and we worked on strictly head lock escapes again.

    We did positional sparring were opponent starts of the match holding you in a headlock. Our job is to escape, his job is to control us or submit. If we escape we restart holding the headlock. The guy I was paired up with was strong as an ox and he really held on to that headlock for dear life. I escaped his head lock a few times but I paid a price. Bruising to both ears, lost contact, gi burns all over my face, bumps on the back of the head. The white belt came up to me after class and apologized saying he doesn't know any technique and hopes I am not mad at him. I told him not to worry about it, no big deal.

    When I was on top I controlled him easy and even set up a paper cutter choke.


    Had to go to work looking like Frankenstein but that's part of the game.
    I have disc issues in my neck
