The most obvious examples are Shogun, Wandy and Cro Cop as soon as they went from Pride to the UFC and Fedor as soon as he went to Strikeforce.

What other examples are there of fighters who weren't out of their prime until they started losing?

Isn't that everyone according to Sherdog?

Oh hai Priapus

The shogun that beat Machida and Liddell performed better in those fights than when he was in pride imo

None. Prime, injuries, etc are real and the mileage takes its toll

Fedor was not out of his " prime " when he went to strikeforce... he was obviously getting older and stuff but he was still near his best when he fought Werdum, after that fight age combined with the mental stresses he had I think contributed to a slight down turn... But he was still damn good....

Some UFC geeks just dont train and dont understand that you can be past your physical prime and still have flashes of brilliance if you're as good as Fedor and Anderson.

Was Fedor still capable of doing amazing things when he was in Strikeforce? Yes. Was he the same guy from 5 years before that? Not even close.

Can Anderson Silva still do amazing things at this age? Yes. Is he still the same guy who came in hungry and snipered Chris Leben? Definitely not.

Geeks need to understand that a lot happens in a fighters life over a decade physically, psychologically and possibly spiritually.

Fedor and Anderson were both physically and mentally past their prime when they lost. Fedor had been talking about retirement before the Werdum fight which was already a DECADE into his fight career. Anderson didnt even want a rematch with Weidman.

Yes they can still do amazing things in combat but both have clearly lost the focus that they had when they were in their prime.

Grow up geeks.

Yep.

Unless the first loss was questionable, then it was robbery, fluke, injury.

If they happen to lose a second time in the next couple fights, then they are overrated.

Wand lost his last two fights in Pride, heck one could easily argue that he was 1-4 in his last 5 Pride fights (he lost BOTH arona fights IMO), so you can't claim that his prime ended as soon as he come to the UFC.

Fedor looked really sloppy against Rogers, I think he lost focus and desire after the crocop fight, similar to how crocop lost his focus as soon as he won the OWGP.

i think this thread is most telling of what is perceived as 'out of their prime'

Mark Hominick and Josh Grispi. I think Mark Hominick got out of his prime after he lost to Aldo.

Most great fighters are past their prime well before it starts translating into losses. People just don't usually realize it until they start losing. Why is that hard to understand? It's very rare to get a guy, like Floyd Mayweather in boxing, who can still put up dominant wins over the best in the world even when it's patently obvious he's slowing down. I thought GSP was that way post injury. But a fighter's actual prime is generally pretty damn short.

Funny you didn't bring up Anderson considering almost every Anderson fan was saying he was out of his prime as soon as Weidman finished him.

Any Fedor fan that isn't delusional knew he was out of his prime after the Arlovski fight.

ken shamrock...i think the first tito fight was his last fight....the 2nd fight was like a totally different person.
