I hate saying it because I love the guy but BJ Penn was first to come to mind.

I have to think Roy Nelson has a place here as well.

Krazy Horse should be in the conversation imo. He is older now, but in his day, had some great wins without taking MMA very seriously.

I don't think Gomi trained at all for his entire UFC career.

Didn't Jon Jones spend a few months only powerlifting because he fell in love with it? That's on top of his usual nose candy regimen every weekend before a fight.

There was a fighter recently that didn't train at an mma gym or anything at all. Just did training at his house by himself, he got whooped though. I can't remember if it was UFC or Bellator.

    You can't afford it
BJ trained technique a lot. He was very skilled for a reason. His problem was he was such a good natural athlete, he never took conditioning seriously. First it showed in his gas tank, where guys could just outwork him. Then he got slower and weaker quicker than most fighters.

I recall Roy Nelson was training by himself for the TUF final, had a small gym fitted in his home.

Im more than positive theres a ton of fighters that if you knew how much they actually worked out all the time it would be laughable and average. Ive met and trained with a lot of pros and only have met a handful that actually jog. Not talking they are training/losing weight for a specific fight, but just being an athlete and jogging, along with other conditioning exercises as just normal shit. Like a military lifestyle but with martial art training. A LOT of these dudes slack showing up to practices consistently until they sign a fight contract, then they train like an “athlete”....

Great names so far, Im not donating any

I remember when Roy Nelson coached TUF all his fighters were upset because they didn't think they were training enough.
