Fighters who have tapped to strikes in the UFC

GSP's alien talk does makes me nervous with him though.

Sometimes liking this sport makes me feel guilty.
He always talked about aliens from his early career, that's just an eccentric belief. GSP's speech is nothing like the CTE guys if you listen to him. He is clear and coherent these days.

Yeah, shit seems to be getting real as the sport ages and the fighter's physical vulnerabilities surface.

Cain, Baroni, BJ Penn, many others; no bueno.

Honestly as well I feel that match was probably let go for much longer than normal because GSP was so hyped as a champ who would be dominant, I feel like most fights would get waved off when Serra drops him for the 3rd time but here Serra is ontop raining down GnP for another few seconds with still no stoppage.

Forrest against Rashad I think.

But at what point does "smart" become weak/defeatist/cowardly. I dont want to see this become normalized. Then you'll have a bunch of guys giving up at the first sign of trouble. I always respect the ones who never tap to anything even submissions the most.
These guys are already competitive as hell, and they have their careers riding on winning. If they tap just cause they got rocked they can still be cut from the roster if really is a cowardly tap. Most of the time these tap-to-strikes are going to be GnP situations where the ref should be calling TKO but is holding off a bit because the fighter might have some move to escape, then the tapout is pretty much the fighter saying they're either too damaged to do that escape, or that their opponent has them locked down too well

But it really should be a last resort, with the refs being #1 and the corner towel throw being #2. However, refs often do late stoppages, and corners are super cowardly about throwing in the towel, so tapping to strikes is then a necessary safety mechanism #3

Paul buentelllo either tapped or made someone and I swear it was leg elbows

Honestly surprised this can hasn't been banned yet.

Try not to feed the troll:

Maybe @P4p Islam is just a big fucking idiot with extreme memory loss, considering how much he keeps forgetting this subject

Over the course of history most MMA fans have agreed that tapping to strikes is the cowards way out. How many times has this happened in the UFC?

I can only think of 2 instances off the top of my head. Fred Ettish and CroCop.

I think that in several instances, tapping to strikes is the intelligent way out. If you're stuck, and can't escape and are getting pounded infinitely in the head....it's a submission. Hence, submission to strikes. I'd muuuuuuuuuuch rather get choked out or have my arm snapped than infinite repeated head strikes and hammer-fists to the dome because I don't want to tap.

You described the line perfectly. There's a difference between giving up at the first sign of trouble and knowing that you're out of options. If you get hit with a strike and all of a sudden you're blind and there's an unusual level of pain like Lawler vs MacDonald 2 (he didn't tap, but he had every right to do so) tapping shouldn't be demonized.
