These guys are independent contractors and should only sign contracts per Fight.

I think MMA would be better if these guys didnt belong to one org. fighters could fight in multiple orgs and we we wouldn't be limited to watching only guys within their orgs fighting.

currently there is no benefit for the fighter to sign a multi fight deal. they can be cut at any time for any reason. all it does is lock in the amount they can be paid and keeps them from seeking more money or fighting else where.

That doesn't sound cumbersome at all.

So when they lose that 1 fight they are gone from the UFC forever...

Sorry, but that is a pretty bad idea.

Guess I'm the only one that likes the sound of this. It benefits fans and fighters, only the individual promotions are losing power.

In a perfect world, it would be a great idea...but, let's be realistic.

Contracts aren't written on napkins for a reason.

So basically you're saying you want it set up for UFC to be more willing to let go of fighters after they lose a fight? Dan Hardy lost 4 fights in a row, is the UFC going to keep on re-upping with him after every single fight?

How does it benefit fans? Fighters ducking opponents all the time padding records against nobodies. Turning the whole fight game into a political mess. As for fighters benefit... not really. Spending every single fight renegotiating new contracts every time they lose their pay possibly gets cut in half. MMA would become more like Boxing with an even wider gap in pay between top fighters and up and comers.

The only people who dont realy benifit are the promotions. If fighters started doing this. Orgs like the ufc would have to start sharing more of the profits with the fighters.

    no.

If the contracts were guaranteed for the fighters then it would benefit many to sign multi fight deals for a set pay because they want the stability of knowing they have X fights over X time and will make X dollars, win or lose.

    Many will gladly take that.

But the current UFC contracts lock in the fighter while at the same time the UFC can just release them anytime, regardless of contract, which is not something the fighters should want. For the UFC they have locked in the most they will have to pay while ensuring they can get out of it and pay nothing if they want.

    Works both ways really.

If they lose a fight, they'd earn far less for their second one.
