Fighters are the finest athletes on the planet

Most street fights last under a minute, and you always see people gasping for air when it's all said and done (not to mention both participants only land about 0.05% of their strikes...

MMA fighters engage in 3 major arts AT ONCE...boxing, Muay Thai (kicks), and grappling...

Yeah, I think it's reasonable for many if not most of them to gas after a round or two (5-10 minutes).

Well you'd be wrong then, because it isnt.

Many fighters manage it fine.

If you cant last the duration of a contest in your chosen sport, choose another one or accept you'll never be the best.

Is that why fighters get 10k/10k and 2000 bucks from reebok? Nba players can get up to 25-30 mil a year from salary. Kevin's durant, James harden and others have 100 to almost 300 mil Nike deals. Lebron has a lifetime billion dollar deal with Nike.

Explosiveness doesn't mean absolutely anything in fighting if you don't have the right timing. You only get that through years of experience, something that those NBA bums will never have

F1 drivers and fighters both deserve more respect than anyone because those are dangerous sports that get the best qualities out of people. Fuck sports where no one ever dies

rip ayrton senna.

Yeah exactly. Because some long rangy fighters are successful using very specific boxing techniques like sticking the opponent with a well time jab and moving around laterally it doesn't mean these NBA guys could employ their height as some big advantage. More often then not it would be a disadvantage.

I can see wrestlers easily picking up those long legs and toss him around then grab one of those long limbs on the ground for subs. Or just butcher him with body shots on the inside.

HWs kind of strange weight class. It's the only one where the smaller guys are usually GOATs both in boxing and MMA.

All the other weight classes, guys that are too big and struggle to cut the weight tend to be successful but at HW its usually the smaller stockier ones that are better.

It makes fucking perfect sense.

A sportsman should be perfectly attuned to perform well for the maximum possible duration in their own field.

The best footballers, tennis players, boxers etc always are.

Many of the top MMA fighters are often not.

This point was so simple to understand (and so correct) it even feels silly explaining it.

No matter how conditioned you are you are still going to get tired fighting. I have played every sport and combat sports are the most tiring.

Even the best conditioned athletes in the world are going to tire in five minute rounds against another great athlete that has been training to fight his whole life.

You can't say they are bad athletes because they get tired in a fight. Everybody gets tired in a fight. The only guys that i can recall that were able to go 100% explosive the whole time and barely fade toward the end were GSP, Shogun and Wand.

It's not fair to use retirement ready Cro Cop as example, he was at 40 something fights here, and over a 100 fights total with his K-1 career plus years of damage as a Special Ops officer for his country.

The guys was the equivalent of a SEAL in his country and did Pro Boxing at the same time. This fight happened dozens of years after all that damage.

And Schwaub was cut from UFC anyways. Cut from both sports.

You must be insane if you think ufc has the best athletes. Nba and Nfl has the best athletes and its not even close. Go watch some nfl practice, you will see some big ass dude, 300+ move like a dam lightweight, its fking scary. It's far easier to becoem a professional fighters than to become basketball or a football(nfl) player, thats for dam sure.

Oh, I get it...you're just being dumb.

Anyway...

That's the issue...MMA is NOT a single sport...it's a mixture of several arts.

I bet if most ball players had to compete (at top levels) in football, soccer, baseball, and basketball in one day, they'd be done!

Doesn't matter if you're A level or not. The problem is getting hit in the face and beat up. There's also a plateau that all fighters reach. It isn't as simple as athletics, there are multiple factors into being a good fighter. If it was pure athleticism someone like Randleman would be GOAT.

Chump change compared to what Michael Schumacher was making. NBA players are clearly inferior athletes. Because it's measured in salary.

Michael Schumacher was the greatest athlete of that era.

But fighters get paid more. Floyd and Pacquiao shit on all of those bums.

Why do you have to project so much negativity onto the discussion. ......honestly? Pouring all that aggro posturing on needlessly just makes you seem like an angsty teenager with a shit argument .

Lol @ bums! Whats greater TS, your own net worth or your post count? Be honest

Let's put it this way, if all the world's finest athletes met up at a particular venue and shit kicked off, I know who would be leaving that joint pretty much how they arrived.
Who? Fighters don't qualify as worlds finest athletes. Unless D & E level athletes count?

While an obvious troll thread not well disuguised. You put forth some effort which is more than I can say for most of the trolls here. Your execution is lacking though. In the future of you're going to troll this hard you need to tighten your game up.

I'm posting this because idiots here claiming that bums like NBA and NFL players are somehow superior athletes to MMA fighters are extremely disrespectful and their false views need to be exposed once and for all.

People who blabber about the supposed "A-level" athletes focus too much on the supposed superior genetic predispositions of those athletes or stress the fact that their sport has a bigger "talent pool". Even if true this is absolutely meaningless because more than anything an athlete is shaped by the sport he participates in and not the other way around.

Fighters who have the will power, talent and courage to do what it takes to come to the top have through years of training and fighting developed into modern day warriors because of the nature of the sport.

Meanwhile those "A-level" athletes are playing with ball like children or they run or jump around a bit. I simply view combat sports with striking involved (ie. MMA and boxing) as the superior sports to whatever they're doing and by virtue of being involved in that superior sport fighters are superior athletes. Fighting is a timeless most primal sport in the history of humanity.

Also, it's absolutely ridiculous to claim that "A-level" athletes don't go into combat sports because the pay is low when the highest paid athlete of all times is a fighter. Floyd Mayweather proved that boxing pays more than any other sport. Far more. Obviously you have to reach the top level but if those athletes don't believe they can reach the top then they aren't much of competitors anyway.

Most of those ball sport "A-level" athletes wouldn't even have the courage to even train boxing at an elite level (which involves hard sparring) for 6 months, yet alone enter the MMA and dominate. They would quit after they would get busted up in sparring routinely. Most people in the world do not have the balls to brawl with elite trained fighters. It's insulting how people here take the courage of MMA fighters for granted. Even your roided hero Brock reacted like a complete pussy when being hit, it was an embarrassment.

Combat sports have attracted some of the finest, most charismatic and most inspiring human beings. It's no coincidence that the most popular athlete in history Muhammad Ali is a fighter. That's because combat gets the best and the most heroic out of people. You can be cynical all you want about that but you know it's true.

Oh hogwash the talent pool in each weight class is so thin they can't even make exciting fights anymore.

The best athletes go to the best paying sports or the individual Olympic events. Simple as that!

Sad day 4 U!
