Jorge Masvidal hopes more people bring attention to fighter pay ‘because I think it’s messed up’

Jorge Masvidal said he was “leading the charge” for better fighter pay in the UFC. But these days, he’s just not quite sure how 600-some independent contractors get together to make that happen...“Fighters are very individual creatures,” Masvidal said recently on The MMA Hour. “We’d have to come together under a roof, or something like that, and have each other’s best interests at heart, so we could sit down with everybody together. And that, in itself, is a problem.

Masvidal has said his mission is to get fighters their fair share of the revenue produced by their work in the octagon. According to court documents brought to in an anti-trust case against the UFC, the promotion expects to pay no more than 20 percent of that revenue to the fighters. “Gamebred” cited a recent Twitter graphic that put it at 16 percent, the share that went to fighters in 2012, according to internal projections made public through the lawsuit.

Masvidal believes things will change one day...he’s not sure what will be the catalyst.

The catalyst will be when it starts trickling down, Jorge. Just be patient.

Now, In Jorge's defense, his hot take was at least better than Sam Alvey's was:

"I'm strongly against the unions. I've said it before. The unions want to pay everybody the same amount, and I don't support that. Conor McGregor earned his multi-millions by the way he runs his mouth and the way he wins. As much as I'm not a fan of his, I'm with that. With a union, he wouldn't be worth that. He wouldn't get half of what he's asking. Now for some of the guys that don't stand out like him, I think a union could do well. But I think that they are taking something from someone that has earned it. Myself, I don't want it, because I think I'm going to be worth every penny of what Conor is. I just need to get that win streak going and run my mouth a little bit. With a union like that I just don't like it. I'm worth more than some of the other fighters. As bad as that sounds, I am."

He's 0-6-1 in his last 7 fights and looks like he was making about $65,000 a fight in recent fights.

all i see is a bunch of broke haters in this thread.... only weak men hate on another mans goals

Something capitalists spend lots of money to convince workers to be against.

Sometimes they just straight up tell you that unions will get you fired. I used to work at the Corporate office for Menards in Eau Claire, WI, and my bosses told everyone that company policy is to fire anyone advocating for a union.

Yes, if wasn’t for those dastardly capitalists mind controlling people, everyone would want to be in a union.

unionized., the poorest states in the country are all right to work for less states.
You realize that more states are right to work than not? There are still unions in right to work states, you simply aren’t forced to join. I realize that may be a problem if you are counting on those union dues to fund your next campaign.

Doesn't matter if you have unions when rightwing governments along with business are committed to union busting.
