6 PM in the Emirates is 8-12 am in the americas, and overnight in east asia/oceania
Europe and the Middle East are great and all, but they account for quite a small percentage of the UFC market
Nobody in the West is going to spend a summer morning to afternoon indoors to watch a Fight Night card, and nobody east of India is going to stay up all night for one.
Obviously a single event like 242 had enough appeal to make up for a less than ideal start time from a ratings standpoint. 251 probably will too. What about the rest of the "Fight Island" cards though? How do they make more sense financially than Florida or Vegas cards now that foreign athletes can come into the U.S? The start times are going to keep much of the world from tuning in, especially now that everyone knows that "Fight Island" isn't what everyone was expecting. There's no novelty in it anymore.
I'm sorry, but this seems like the biggest fucking business disaster in company history, and Dana has the audacity to sit there and cry about how hard he's worked. So how will the UFC compensate? Is fighting going to happen at 3 in the morning local time? Nothing else seems to make sense.
