My question is... Why? Why now come out of retirement, Your 200+ pounds of fat and you haven't won a fight since 2005 and you haven't competed since 2007 and your taking a fight at Super Middleweight which is @ 168 pounds. Fernando is either in dying need of money or he's delusional if he think's he can make a comeback at this point. I'm leaning on delusional, Everyone remembers his first fight with Shane Mosley, You know the one in which his left eye swelled up like a fuckin' balloon which lead to the fight being stopped and him bitching that he was winning the fight before the stoppage. [This pic will refresh your memory]

SO!!! The point of this thread is... What do you think of him "Attempting" a comeback, What is he really looking for? An ass beating and easy cash OR is he looking to make a run at Championship.

P.S. He's fuckin' fat now dude!

Fernando Vargas Makes Comeback April 16 vs. Henry Buchanan | Bleacher Report

I'm thinking it's money. He never struck me as the fiscally responsible type. Can't say I'm looking forward to this..

Most likely... NO! but the thought of seeing him attempt is kinda interesting... I wouldn't pay for it that's for sure! :icon_conf

Wow I didn't know he got so big. I hope he does well, he always goes for the kill and that's fun to watch.

I agree, I was fan until I found out about his fatness, So young! How could he let himself go like that. It's so sad.

I heard he was trying to get a promotion company started so I bet that why he is coming back. To try and get that off the ground, but He is going to be joke at 168.

Article I read the other day said he had clipped 275 on the scale according to his wife but he wouldn't confirm. Supposedly he's back under 200 now.

Didn't he start a promotion company? I would think it has to do with helping getting that off the ground. I very seriously doubt that anybody would say he has any real shot at being anything other then an attraction for a few fights and hopefully bring up his brand in the meantime.

Money.
He's probably broke, or close to being broke. He never struck me as a smart man, Im pretty sure he ran through all the millions he made as a boxer in his younger days.

i like vargas so id like to see him fight again. if he is fresh, gets in shape, and still has some speed/reflexes he could do ok. he may win a couple of fights and get a big fight one more time. he is a name people know.

He looked completely shot against Mayorga, no balance. Buchanan has a chance, it's a tough comeback fight actually.

Vargas got roughed up by pretty much every top fighter he faced....now after not fighting all this time he is likely to get roughed up again

vargas faced prime/near prime versions of winky wright, ike quartey, felix trinidad, oscar de la hoya, shane mosley, and ricardo mayorga all within 31 pro fights...which is amazing but its clear that he paid a price physically from those fights (esp the fight with trinidad)...vargas does not need to be fighting..the man has slurred speech and its not because he was fat/obese and even in his last couple of fights he looked like absolute shit..this comeback is going to look bad if it comes off

Yes indeed.

He speech is slurred worse than my old boxing coach and you can tell his thought process is real slow, and my coach was in no shape to fight even though he was in great physical shape. So how can vargas have the mental capacity to drop all that weight and get mentally prepared to fight. I dont know, after I heard him talk recently I was shocked at the transformation from his younger days. I really dont see anything good happening here. I was a big fan of his too.

Looking for that one last payday. If he does win though, it could mean future paydays which will get bigger. He should pay his opponent to take a dive because he has a better chance of making more money. Don't hate, this is very common in boxing.
